hi
errrm when i try to maximise the screen it dosent work so i am stuck i have updated and tried it in 800x600 1024x600 1024x768 there the only ones i can use i have included some screen shots which i think will help explain it

There's currently a bug in the game that lets the interface disappear when you change the resolution. If you change the resolution or go to fullscreen, close the game afterwards and restart it to make it work.

the-revolution
2009-10-17, 20:56
i whish that did work but its still stuck like that in 1024x768 it was better but the bottom was choped off so im still stuck i have of corse tried the othe ones as well and not just 1024x768 i really need it to work on 1024x600 because thats the naritive but i dont mind 800x600 cause my pc is not really meant to run 1024x768 and its quite slow cause i only have a intel GMA950

I have the same problem, althought, it never bothered me much, there's only a small black line. I cannot play in full screen (the game freezes) so I always play in windowed mode. When I launchi the game, ~1/3 of the window is out of the screen, so I moove the window, and then, that black line appears. I've never reported because it's rather small and never bothered me.

the-revolution
2009-10-18, 09:49
ye but it makes it unplayable if it was just a small black line i could live with that (i take it you have looked at the screen shots) cause it massive and in the first pic half of the game is cut out all i do is drag it accross then it ends up like the second pic

Rincevent_123
2009-10-18, 10:21
Hi the-revolution,

So as far as I understand, it works ok in windowed mode, but as soon as you go fullscreen you get those black bars independantly of the resolution you choose, is that correct?

A few questions:
-what operating system do you have?
-is you screen a widescreen (16:9) or a normal screen(4:3)?

Thanks,

Rincevent

the-revolution
2009-10-18, 10:30
yer it does not matter what resolution i have it still does it
- im on xp home sp3
-humm im not sure my display size is 10.1 inch so it is a wide screen its naritive resolution is 1024x600. but i really if dont know if it is 16:9 errr is there any way i can check. the pc im useing is a samsung nc10 if that helps

Polaris
2009-10-18, 17:58
It's simple, if your screen looks like a rectangle, it's a 16:9, if it's looks like a square, then it's a 4:3.

Rincevent_123
2009-10-18, 19:48
I attached a file with this message.
Could you copy this file into your lbanet/data directory.
If you do it correctly then you should be able to choose 1024x600 as your resolution in the game.

Let me know if it worked out.

hmmmmm :/ when updating the game(4th step in the setup process you laid out) it says that it can't update, because it can't find the file "IcePatch2.sum".

Any ideas?

....and the "Data Execution Prevention (DEP)" thingy in windows vista shut down one of the installers AND "LBANet.exe"...I can't even open the game...lol..crap :|
(I tried adding "LBANet.exe" to the list of programs that don't apply for the "Data Execution Prevention (DEP)"...but it said that I couldn't run that .exe without having the DEP turned on....sewww basically I can't play the game because of this thing trying to protect my system)

Rincevent_123
2009-10-19, 10:47
the-revolution: I am not sure of what is wrong with the image now? there is no more black bar isn't it?

loptow: the first time you run the game patcher it is normal it tells you that, you just need to answer yes to the question asking to do a full patch.

as for DEP I am afraid I can not do much about that.

Polaris
2009-10-19, 14:38
I had the same (DEP) problem, try to install it without the installaters, but with the archives. It worked for me.

the-revolution
2009-10-19, 19:19
there is no black bar ur right but if i move it accross it does and the bottom is a bit cut off is it ment to be like that???

Rincevent_123
2009-10-19, 23:29
the-revolution: when you said it is cut, are you talking about the bottom part?
what happen then if you move the window up?
what happen if you go fullscreen then?

Rincevent

the-revolution
2009-10-20, 19:45
ye the bottom errrm if i move it it has the big black border just like before and the same for full screen

Rincevent_123
2009-10-21, 14:20
Strange things, I would say it is normal that it does not display correctly in windowed mode because the resolution is too big for a window, but it should work fine in fullscreen. Are you sure your native screen resolution is 1024x600 ?

the-revolution
2009-10-21, 19:16
hummm yes that would make sence and im sure im in 1024x600 i will give you a screen shot thougt cause i cant go full screen other wise i get the black edge

Rincevent_123
2009-10-21, 20:23
I have to say I am running out of ideas :p
The problem is that I do not have any widescreen at home to test and try to fix the issue...
Anybody wants to give me one? :D

Polaris
2009-10-21, 23:53
Try to change the games resolution in the .cfg file, for me, it modified that black line.

the-revolution
2009-10-24, 10:35
well this is a bit strange
how do i edit the .cfg file

Polaris
2009-10-24, 12:35
it's in the Lbanet/data directory, a file called preferences.cfg open it with the wordpad, or with the notepad, and change the screen resolution manually there.
Options :
{
General :
{
Language = "fr";
TextR = 255;
TextG = 150;
TextB = 150;
};
Video :
{
ScreenResolutionX = 1366;
ScreenResolutionY = 768;
Fullscreen = false;
DisplayFPS = false;

you should find this. try to type 800x600 for example.

the-revolution
2009-10-24, 21:56
thanks for that i changed it to 1024x600 and now works take a look anway i just want to say a big thank you to Rincevent_123 and Polaris for sticking with this!!!!

Polaris
2009-10-25, 19:05

The weird is that it seems to happen only with 16:9 screens...

the-revolution

This happens every time I choose a map.

I am also not sure if the update program does anything. When I run it says

"C:\Program Files\Lbanet>icepatch2client --IcePatch2.Remove=0 --IcePatch2.Endpoin
ts="tcp -h 88.191.15.204 -p 10000"

for a while, then closes.

My version still appears as 0.5.

What are the maps now? Can't you just make one server with all the expansions installed? Seems much simpler.

Rincevent_123

Graxer: Obvisouly the patching process does not work correctly.
Could you try to open a dos command prompt then do the following:

cd C:\Program Files\Lbanet
icepatch2client --IcePatch2.Remove=0 --IcePatch2.Endpoints="tcp -h 88.191.15.204 -p 10000"

and tell me if there is any error displaying in there.

Maybe you could add a "wall" page where people can write a comment about the game and your site?

Guestbook, Login and many more features are going to be implented in the final Homepage.
Actually what you can see now is just the basic layout. I'm currently working on bringing the whole layout into a CMS. After that I'll try to connect the CMS-features with the used LBANet Database which will most likely take longest.
When that's all finished I'm gonna release it to you guys as soon as possible :)

Graxer: looks like you can not connect to the server.
I just tested it and the patch server is running and all works fine on my side.

So this means there should be an issue on your side.
A few questions:

Could you give me your operating system?
Also do you have a firewall running?
Which country are you leaving in?

Thanks,

Rincevent

Just turned my firewall completely off, but it didn't help. It's still not managing to update. Also, LBANet says the server is off for me too. (But that may be because it's an old version.)

EDIT: One thing it could possibly be is my university's firewall stopping it. I will try again next time I am at home.

Have you startet the patcher via the patcher.bat or through the Link in your start-menu?
I had problem with the Start-menu link once but after patching once via patcher.bat everything worked fine.

Graxer: yes the uni firewalls are usually pretty strict on the ports you can use so that might well be the issue

Darkflame: I would suggest you to try like Graxer did:
Open a DOS command prompt:

cd C:\Program Files\Lbanet
Patch.bat

and see if you get any error display there after the patcher goes to 100%

Darkflame

D:\program files\Lbanet>patch.bat

D:\program files\Lbanet>icepatch2client --IcePatch2.Remove=0 --IcePatch2.Endpoin

[Press any key to abort]

Dark: if you go to the lbanet directory you should see a file called IcePatch2.sum.
Just delete it and start the patcher again.
i attached a file with what you should see then.

Let me know if this solved your issue.

Rincevent_123

There is about 1min timeout server side in case of crash before you can reconnect to the game so this is normal.
You just need to wait for a bit and then you should be able to log again like you did.

RosaMarietheCow
2009-11-23, 02:04

So just patch your game again and it will work.

RosaMarietheCow

Rincevent_123
2009-11-25, 11:55
It seems that if there is no activity on the server for a while the database gets disconnected.
A simple server restart solves the matter for now. But I am still investigating the issue.

Imogen
2009-11-26, 04:34
I am getting a crash before I get into the game. I tried everything on the trouble shooting and nothing seems to work. I am currently running a Windows Vista Laptop.

Is there anything that I can try that's not on the list?

Korlus
2009-11-26, 05:18
I'm afraid to say that I've been having the same problem as Imogen here - I download it, install it (as specified), run it... and it crashes. It tells me that there has been a "Data Execution Prevention" problem and that it had to close.

I've tried to run the .NET framework download from Microsoft (I'm 99% sure I already have it, but I thought I'd run it just to make sure) and it fails to install (presumably because I already have it?).

Another problem I have is that on your site (The lbanet.net site) I've registered an account but cannot log into it. The text box where I should be able to log in does not seem selectable to me.

If there's anything I can do to be of help, please feel free to ask. I played LBA with my mother when I was (quite) young - having seen it selling cheaply in a magazine in 1996 (or so). Between the two of us (we took turns over the course of about a year) we managed to complete it (having found, and somehow bypassed the red card bug, I think. I can't remember how we did it - it might've been going back to a save before it happened and doing a whole section of the game again. I just remember it bugged out majorly for us).
I played the game again for myself in about 2002 (with much fiddling. Playing on Windows was awkward) and then managed to borrow a friend's game of LBA2 (unable to find myself one from a retailer that I trusted) in about 2003.

As such, I feel more than obliged to do anything possible to help - if there is anything possible for me to do.

Rincevent_123
2009-11-26, 11:10
Imogen & Korlus:
So i guess you already tried to install the .NET framework http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=333325FD-AE52-4E35-B531-508D977D32A6&displaylang=en)
but also the visual C++ redistribuable http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9b2da534-3e03-4391-8a4d-074b9f2bc1bf&displaylang=en

Now did you try to install it manually without using the installer but with the package? I know that the installer was not working on windows 7, it might be the same issue on Vista.

here is how to install manually:

Download and unpack the main game files: http://lbanet.googlecode.com/files/LBANet_v0.5.rar
Download and unpack the v0.52 patch in the same directory you installed the game: http://lbanet.googlecode.com/files/l...0.52_patch.rar (http://lbanet.googlecode.com/files/lbanet_v0.52_patch.rar)
Download and unpack the images files in the same directory you installed the game: http://lbanet.googlecode.com/files/Image_v0.4.rar
Patch your game to the lattest version using "Patch.bat" program in the game directory
run the game

Let me know if this manual way works for you or not.

Korlus: the website is still under construction so i the login panel is not functionnal yet.

Korlus
2009-11-26, 13:48
It worked, although having looked at everything, it was most likely because I finally got the patcher to work (although I did both re-install the C++ re-distributable, and manually install the game itself. To explain why I hadn't patched it before... Well....

On my first try, I couldn't get the patcher to work. The reason why was because when it said "yes/no", I put in "y". When "y" didn't work, I tried "n". It's been such a long time since I've had to actually type the whole thing in, it didn't occur to me to do it until today.

If I may suggest, the next update you release should probably alter that (and perhaps the website version should ship with the altered patcher?) to make things easier for people?

I know it sounds silly, but things like that really can confuse people. I'm in a library right now, so I won't be trying the game out beyond the login screen until later today, but it does look promising.

Sorry for being so silly.

Rincevent_123

I am planning to release a new installer this weekend which should ease the process for newcomers.

Actually you have to wait more like 1 or 2 minutes in case of crash before you can reconnect again. Also for the problem where you can not move this seems rather strange. Which operating system do you use. Also what keyboard do you use? You hsould be able to move using the arrow key.

It's currently the only World we can give full support for.
LBA-original is full of bugs because it's directly taken from the LBA-files with no editing at all.

Hi,

When I try to run LBANet it updates it, then I click on play, and I can hear the theme music playing but it just shows the desktop background in the window where the game should be, like it's not responding. Also, sometimes when I try to start the game it comes up with an error about .NET.

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit.

leoboe
2009-12-24, 18:01
As Rincevent is currently on holiday I can't give you real support but you should possibly try to run the game in compatibility mode, as it's not actually made for Win7.

If there has been some error with the patching before, you should try to reinstall the game and run the patcher again.

djpalmer93
2009-12-24, 20:35
I went into the game directory and changed the game and patcher to use Windows XP compatibility mode but it still wouldn't work, so I might try reinstalling it sometime.

I went into the game directory and changed the game and patcher to use Windows XP compatibility mode but it still wouldn't work, so I might try reinstalling it sometime.

Thanks for your help.

A little off-topic, but I've played alot of pre-XP games an have tried the compatability mode alot to get games working, not even ONCE have it worked, is it just a dummy function that was just put there to be able to say "XP is compatible with apps from previous Windows versions"?

Lame!

Disagree, I have much games, like KotOR 2 which only run if I use that compatibility box. I think LBAWin also only works in that mode. It is very useful.

Knights of the old republic? Isn't that an XP game? LBAwin works fine here in XP without compatability mode, but things may differ between computers and their hardware

Hi everyone !
I'm pretty surprised that i never heard of this project since i'm a big fan of the franchise, and this looks great :D
Anyway i have a problem with the installation of the game... Well more with the patching of it. I successfully installed the client on my computer but when i launch it, he check the server for an update (about a minute) until the message "error during patching. Please check the file patching.log for details" appears.
I know it's pretty vague but do you have an idea what the origin of the problem could be ? I tried to install the 3.5 NET platform-thing but the installation failed, so i suppose it's already on my pc.

I woul be thankful if you could help me ;)

edit : i changed the autorizations of my firewall so that the client and the patcher can work properly, but there is no modification.

Which operating system do you use? if vista or windows 7, did you try to run it with administrator rights?

A file called patching.log should have been created in the installation directory of the game, could you open it with a text editor and paste the content here? That would help understand the issue.

I just tried the new version of the game.
Was going great...quests and all.
Then it crashed after about 40 minutes :( (prog just closed, no error or warning)
Not such a big deal...till I logged in and saw my inventory was whipped out !
Absolutely everything. (including the christmas stuff)

What I remember I had;

* 30 kashe's exact
* Candy Cane
* XMas present (unopened)
* 10 health potions.
* 7(?) magic potions (I think)
* Scroll with a cookie on it :p (I think)
* Something heart shaped...cant quite remember.

My status on the quests was also completely lost.

* Both quests started, neither was done. (I was just collecting money for both of them).

Cant exactly remember where I crashed, think it was when moving between area's.

When logging back in, at first it said someone was already logged in under my name (as expected, seeing as I reloaded it pretty fast). After 30 seconds I tried again, and I was back at twinsens house with everything reset.
Hope this helps to diagnose the problem.

Upto the crash there was no other problems, was going great :)

Thats weird. I have checked the database and actually everything is there (your whole inventory and quests are there and nothing is missing).
Are you sure you did not connect in local mode?

Could you try to connect again to see if it works fine for you now?

I've had the program installed for a while, always been working, but havn't played it recently. Now when I open up LBAnet I only get to see the initial window thats connecting to see if their are updates. Then I get the option to Play. I click Play. The windows disappears, and nothing happens

Or did you try to modify the compatibility ?
Do you get any error message ?

RosaMarietheCow: looks to me like the patching did not work correctly. Could you have a look at the file patching.log and tell me what is in there.

Also same as I said before, try to run the program as administrator.

I'm on an XP computer by the way. And the patching file was a text document. First time I opened it up empty, but then again i got this: Getting list of files to patch: 0%0%0%1%1%1%2%2%3%3%3%4%4%5%5%5%6%6%7%7%7%8%8%8%9%

does that mean anything

Rincevent_123

Does the file stops at 9%?

This should go until 100% then after that you should see a list of file that have been downloaded.
If not then the patching process did not work correctly, try to run it again.

have run it several times now, not working. Not exactly understanding you either. I ran the patching program which brought up a black window that said connecting to sever, something along those lines, then the startup LBAnet window would open, connecting to server again then would load 100%. Then quit. I also in the process of the checking for updates looked at a txt document in the directory, which said updating (or something similar): 0%, and didn't change.

I meant in the file it should g olike this until 100%
Do you have a firewall running on your machine?
If so try to deactivate it and see if it works better.

When I enter to a world, everything is OK, but then a message comes up, and then the LBA intros (adeline, Little Big Adventure, Electronic Arts) and after this, the screen goes white. Please help!

Looks like you have problem with viewing the video.
Try to press the escape key then you should arrive in the game.

You probably cant see the video because you are missing video codec.

Try to watch one of the video located under Data/World/lba1Original/Videos using windows media player.
If it does not work then you need to install video codec to make it work fine (codecs for xvid and mp3)

I was checking my emails, saw the update and installed it; I've had a breif look at the new 1.5 version and I've listed the first bugs that come into view (see spoilers for details).

Issue 1: White screen video (as said above)
When I enter to a world, everything is OK, but then a message comes up, and then the LBA intros (adeline, Little Big Adventure, Electronic Arts) and after this, the screen goes white. Please help!
Same issue; I suspected that and pressed 'Esc' to go into the game.
Issue 2: use button not working // certain keys make the game unresponsive.
After going into the game I found there to be no 'use' button, I always thought it was 'e' or 'w' but they did nothing and after pressing a few more keys 1 by 1 I suddenly find the game unresponsive ('not responding') and ultimately crashes.

I'm not certain which keys they were without retesting but I only pressed the keys 1 at a time.
Issue 3: Character has become radioactive..
*cough* I mean he's glowing green when he's not behind an object. I'm guessing that its a lighting issue.
Issue 4: (minor) The website says we're on version1.1
http://www.lbanet.net/ Just right of where it says 'Support Us' next to the flags.

This is a weird bug that only happens the first time you connect to a new world. Will fix it soon

2 new bugs.

*Webchat can't see ingame chat (server swap maybe?)
- fix: refresh fixes this, might be my internet connection.

*Forward and/or another key = program crash, still need to find out how to recreate it. Has happened three times for me; maybe because I alt tab.

-----
I noticed 'w' doesn't work for 'use' but going to normal mode and pressing 'space' works.

Fixed, now the webchat should work fine, let me know.

I need to know the key combination that makes the game crash else it might be hard to find.

I have to fix this, will check this tonight if I have time.
