Ok, I have been ignoring this project because I am busy with my own.
From what I can gather the Compendium is going to be a collection of information about all the stuff in LBA (peoples, places, objects ect)
Is this right?
If so I have written a programme that could help.
I was writting a programme to help organise my RMP files and Pics, when I relised with a small adaption it could help with this.
Are you interested, its about .4mb.

yep anything would help :)

but im not sure you can send that in hotmail think the account is smaller.. =\

and you dont have ICQ

so anyway you can try to send it to Ran_ziv@<hidden>

if it doesnt work ask Jesse\Gustav they are the only others who visits here anyway.. :)

I will upload to my Yahoo briefcase tommorow in Zip format.
-----------------------------------------------------------
To use it simply add TXT,RTF,BMP or GIF files to the directorys in the programme. The programme will then automaticaly display them on the menus, making it easy to select the information to be viewed.
New sub-folders can be added, but not new main sections.
Medi,Wav,JPEG and HTML is not sapport yet..I might relase an update when I can be bothered.

thanx
:)

RTF?

what's that?

(and how did you make that program?)

Darkflame

I will upload latter, RTF is a like a TXT file but can also do diffrent fonts, sizes, bold ect.
WordPad can export to RTF format.

Ok its uploaded, its a little bigger then I hoped.
Its in my briefcase, just unzip it anywhere.
---
If it dosn't work you proabably don't have the VB Runtimes needed.
I will upload them to my briefcase (VBruntimestuff). To use the runtimes just unzip and install (about 1.9mb).

Yeah, upload it to the net, hotmail can't manage 4mb big accounts.. So yahoo briefcase is best!

Darkflame

Already have

LOL correction: ... then ask Wacko, Jesse or Gustav, they're the only ones visiting here anyway.. :)

(didn't really get what's VB :?)

VB=Visual Basic (ie. Crap but easy)
VC++=Visual C++ (ie. Hard but Fast)
C++ = Better version of C
C = better version of B
B = err...

correction DF:
VC++ : Microsoft release of a C++ development studio
VB : VisualBasic some sort of improvement to Basic, a bogus programming language

ranking of programming langauges (best/powerfull/etc.. on top):
1 - Assembler
2 - C
3 - C++
4 - Delphi (e.g. Object Pascal)
5 - Pascal
-- big gap here --
6 - Visual Basic
7 - Basic

El how come C++ is after C?
:D

What's Assembler anyway?
(guess its the hardest right..?)

There was a langerage called 'B', I wasn't jokeing, very old.
If I was being pedantic I would say:
0- Binary.
Others that might go below VB:
Dark Basic (powerfull but very high-level)
Click & Creat (ok Logical asembalar langerage whatever
---------
What about java? I looks a bit like old style C to me.
What about Argol (is that how its splelt) and cobal?

what do you mean when you say its "Powerful"?

Darkflame
2001-03-29, 10:59
It has a lot of high-level commands.
eg. Make Sphere, Make Cube, Move camera.
in C++ you would need a lot of code to do the
same as these commands do.
Unfortunatly, because its so 'high level' its much slower
then C++. (although still quicker then trying to do 3D in VB)

What do you mean with slow?

wacko
2001-03-29, 16:07
Slow: it takes long to compile (transform it to a program) and then the programs itself runs slow as well.

Cobal? That's prehistoric!! :)

elmuerte

cobol may be old, but still used a lot... most banks use it...
fortan is also old and still used often... mostly on super computers...

Actauly VB compiles much faster the C++, because it dosn't need all the headers copiled each programe.
The programmes run much slower though.
But for a simple file viewing programme like the one i made VB is fine.

VB runs in a subsystem.. when you compile it only checks syntax and then creates a binary form of your code which is then executed by the subsystem. VB is between coding language and a scripting language... You can compare it to a binary form of perl...

C++ comes after C because, C++ has additions to C but also a lot of changes, it's easier to program in C++, but in C you will build better programs because you have to program more instead of use standard routines caried out by the compiler.

VB creates slower apps, compiling doesn't matter, the VB apps are slower because the subsystem has to be started. Also VB apps are very unreliable since the VB subsystem is not the same on every computer and can't be installed very easely...

Low level programming languages produce apps that are very strict, but are harder to program, high level languages are easier to use but can easily produce unreliable programs.

Yep..I don't know why Wacko mentioned compiling, even a huge programme like LBA would be compiled in under an hour in any langerage.
My VB programe compiled in under a second, I imagine it would be the same for any other langerage. Its runing speed thats important, not compiling speed.
VB is a programming langerage, It might be much slower but it can do EVRYTHING that C++ can. Some features can only be access though API calls, but VB can even sapport Direct X, if you know the right set of commands.(note: I don't know how to use DX in VB, but I have seen someone do it)

elmuerte
2001-03-31, 23:39
to use directx in VB you need to build a directx interface for VB (ActiveX) in an other programming language...

So if you wish to learn a language... which one is the best to begin with?

Darkflame

Not VB, or Normal basic.
I leurned Comadore plus4 Basic, then moved to QBasic(which is the worst I have used) then Visual Basic.
Each time I got lazier at programming, comadore basic you had to know quite a bit about the memory layout and use PEEK and POKE commands to do decent FX.When I swtitch to PC basic I lost my ability to do effient programmes, the additionly proccessing power spoiled me.
I am now finding it diffult to leurn C++, because I am so used to Basic.
----------
Basicaly If you want to leurn to programme dont take the easy route, it just makes things harder.
----------
-------
err..gone a little off thread here...
Has anyone actualy used my programme yet?
