Just a student project of mine

So ladies,

For the last few months I've been working with a team of talented dudes to make something you could see as a high-budget title, but done.. indie style. I know some other folks have tried this as well, and we'll try and do better.

We’re working full-time with a concept artist, three 3D modelers, a game designer and a programmer.

So I guess the "bot" is finally seen spamming But honestly I'd love to hear what you guys think. After all LBA got me into the gaming branche and I know you guys love seeing members be creative and active.

An online shooter, to be released end of june. There'll be weekly updates on the website from now on. It's kind of a mad house with all the stuff going on at the moment

Also we're looking in to a logo for the game itself. Somehow grainy, rusty, metal-y doesn't really seem to work. Anybody have any ideas? We'll possibly make another update soon with a couple of logo's and a poll.

Intriguing! Saw the deathmatch video on Outpost and it looks like solid, good and fast-paced fun - especially with those massive jumps that you can make. I like those kind of twists to FPS games personally, means of faster movement, and it sure looks like fun judging by the video.

Throwing an idea at you; how about if you make one of those massive jumps while already in the air, you propel a ways in the direction you are currently facing? I've seen something akin to it before though, in the open-source project Red Eclipse, but that's irrelevant really. Just an idea.

Either way, I'll keep an eye on this if I remember to, and look forward to trying it myself at some point when you release something. I wish you the best of luck on the project!

Oh and and please, don't take it in the direction where every damn kill, or jump, or sneeze generates XP, EXP or horse shit and what not. Keep it simple, is my advice.

So there's a new update!
I wanted to ask you guys what you think about this! The programmer had some ideas on how to track everything that's happening in a match. I think it turned out pretty cool.

This is basically what it does, it just tracks everything.

I was in doubt to place it in the fan creations section, but I didn't because it is a creation from a fan, but not LBA related.
But you're right, it probably shouldn't be in the General section. Can be moved to off-topic if anyone feels like it

Indeed, I made quite a few models. Never made so many models in a project, and certainly not at this level of quality.
There's so many steps.. high poly version (detail), low poly version, baking the high poly via a normal map, ambient occlusion bake, unwrapping, second UV set for lightmaps, custom collision model, etc.

One example (if you click it, you go to the post. Apart from the gun these models were made by me). I did a lot more, but it would became a bit tiresome if we would display them all on the blog )

Spot-on to the concept art !
You guys have some real high-end work there. I love the final result in both the concept and final model.

Tell me, the biggest challenge is to model, or to actually adapt/"resize" that model (reducing polygons and stuff like that so it becomes a playable model that won't overload anyone's CPU for real-time gameplay, etc) ?

And, another question is, how are you guys financing this game? you mentioned to be full-time jobs, so, there are sponsors and all that?

The biggest challenge is to get the proportions right, and preferably all of the details, in the very first phase. Afterwards, in for example the texturing phase, having missed one important detail can cause all of the phases to have to be redone.

We're currently all still students in our last year, so this is our graduation project. We haven´t received any financial support from our school, the main teachers get more excited over "serious games" (meaning educative games, or generally games with other purposes than just entertainment) and such. We try differently, and work as much hours (mostly 10-12 hours a day, 7 days a week) as possible to try and show a vertical slice (very small portion) of what could be a true AAA game title. It's very exciting, we're currently informing the dutch and international press and see if we can get any coverage.
