Gas of zeelitch

So as ive said i'm replaying LBA2 and i fell into the gas... but what i find odd is that the drowning animation is played.... isnt gas oh i dunno... a GAS something you cant really swim in? so why does twinsen struggle to get to its surface AND also sink slowly?.... shouldnt he just fall through to the lava center?

Yep, he should... however the gas layer could be so thick and dense it behaves like a liquid layer (except toxic and likely corrosive), which would explain why a special elevator is the only way to reach the Undergas.

They were probably too lazy to do a special animation for dying in the gas, which is a pity. I remember when I played LBA2 first as a kid, I thought it is just some strange water. I didn't know English back then so I did understand the storyline and everything else only very vaguely, I figured that it is gas only later.

Liar!!!

Anyways it could really be just a very dense layer of Gas that behaves nearly like a liquid. Otherwise the yellow hover-boat would sink down as well wouldn't it?
Question would be why there's the same (breathable) athmosphere below the Gas and above. The Gas-layer would have to be wrapped around the undergas-athmosphere like the skin of a baloon or something because we know otherwise every chemical substances (being liquid or gasoline) layer from the highest to the lowest density.
Another question is "how could the monsters "swim" in the gas?" because if they had a lower volume mass then the athmosphere they would need to be careful not to get above the gas or they might simply fly up above it (and die alone in the skies of Zeelich). If they have a higher volume mass they would have to be careful not to fall under the gas because there's Lava.

I don't think the undergas is the same atmosphere as above the gas.
I believe I remember one wannie mention that the air above the gas is somewhat thinner than below.

So I think the gas layer is just a wrap of gas denser than the air above, but less dense than the undergass. It is probably somewhat poor design that the story doesn't make it apparent that Twinsen is not used to the unusually dense atmosphere below.

(it might also be vica versa, don't know a lot about densities)

The gas monster probably have about the same density as the gas in order to float around in it. I guess in order to swim higher or lower, they change their density just like a fish does (they have a little pouch full of air which they can compress or release).

Them having fish-like qualities would definitly be a possibility. I don't know about their density, but it does seem weird to me they have to be the same density as the gas. Wouldn't that make them explode?

I think the gas indeed is behaving similar to liquids. It is surrounded by atmosphere in every direction, so it can't flow out of its position. Maybe it is being compressed because of this, so it almost turns into water (explaining the drowning death-animation :P ) And the gas behaving like a liquid makes them able to "swim" in the gas.

Weird note:
I once noticed the object of one such gasmonster to appear very closeby! And it was TINY!!!!

Why would they explode ? Planes fly at places with different densyties, yet they do not explode.

A lot of the gas monsters look like marine mammals or reptiless ie. the walrus monster or the plesiosaur like monsters seen on the gas surface.

i still think the "gas" was originaly going to be water... or a FORM of water and the "undergas" was some sorta weird gravaty thingy that made it so it couldnt fall down ... thus why you can use the thunder spell in the undergas...

I really don't think the creators were thinking the game world into such level of detail and adherence to rules of physics

The ring of lightning doesn't summon the actual lightning, it just replicates its power. Its magic after all, it can be conjured from anywhere, even below ground.

Gas Monsters and Lightning, and then Ponies and Pokemon. Funny how this works

Should I mention the spelling in the thread's title? That it is Zeelich without a T?
I seem to have lost where we are.
