LBA 1 and 2 on sale at GOG.com

If $6 was too much for your wallet to buy any of the re-release of Little Big Adventure from GOG.com.

Then good news, you can by them now with a 50% discount.
So for a mere $3 you can get the re-release of Little Big Adventure and Little Big Adventure 2 (each).

This offer lasts until the 2nd of January 2012, and also applies to all other games.

What an awesome news...

I just spammed all my friends who I know to appreciate old-style adventure games to buy them... even if I now own a Mac I'm not gonna miss this deal!

Dunno, but I sure hope that some little revenue from this sale will reach the original team

That was quick to get on sale. This means they actually had a reasonable amount of copies sold to drop the prices?!

Also, is that possible to know together with GOG how much copies they sold world wide?!

Maybe a stupid question but when you buy them again the game will be a download right? Without booklet, cd case etc?

edit: I think i found my answer!

I already got the games legal, but if they weren't digital only i would have bought them again. (For the fact that these versions work on a more modern OS).

I collect old videogames for all platforms but really only with cd-cases/box booklet, manual etc. so not digital.

I still don't get why this forum supports what is pretty much profiteering from old games. Exactly 0 (= zero) revenues from GOG or DotEmu go to the developers, they do nothing but packaging the games together with DOSBox, and selling that for money.

I'm sure our community over here could easily provide the same kind of thing for free. We'd also reach a much bigger audience as there are plenty of countries where paying online isn't as easy and therefore can't really benefit from the GOG or DotEmu releases but could benefit from a free release.

I think, if we really love the LBA games, we should distribute them for free so that as many people as possible can enjoy them, rather than allow the profiteering by GOG and DotEmu.

Ever heard of legally acquiring your games?

Proof of the zero revenue for developers?

A game that sells can spawn a sequel/spin off/etc... be that for good or bad

Plus you are guaranteed that the game will work if your PC matches the system requirements with no more effort than a double click

Someones told you porkies, because thats not remotely true.
Developers most certainly do get royalties. Normally its just the publisher with the specifically original developers long gone, but in LBA's case it goes to ;

Didier Chanfray SARL

Which I would guess is a pseudo-company Didier set up to create Royalties after they got the LBA rights back.

GOGs, btw, is the same people behind The Witcher series of games. They are a fully legal, registered company and everything published on their site is legal.

DotEMU (who publish the mobile games) I highly suspect is the same, given Didier also advertises that on his facebook.

No problem, there ARE sites out there like you describe, however. Its not that they don't exist, its just its not those two.

However, I still wonder what about say, Japanese, Russian, or Brazilian markets for which the GoG and DotEmu releases of the LBA games are useless because they don't provide the games in their languages.
I still think here on the MBN we could do a much better job to distribute the games to really worldwide audiences.

Edit: And there's the fact GoG and DotEmu are American companies. Why do we Europeans always rely on the Americans to do everything? Do we not find ourselves competent enough to do it ourselves?

Thing is, last year, Obama was making a big point of how Europe is unable to outcompete the US on the Internet, and it seems Europeans are intent at confirming he's right instead of trying to prove he's wrong.

- Darkflame: GoG is Polish? :O Well I stand corrected then.

Still though, how do we go about Russians, Japanese, etc.? GoG so far doesn't distribute the Russian or Japanese versions of the LBA games, or even Brazilian LBA 2 for that matter. We need to do something about it.

That's because the version GOG.com offers is based on the original European one but there are other games in their catalogue that have Russian, Japanese or Brazilian Portuguese languages available

- Necdilzor: But I'm talking about specifically the LBA games. Right now, noone is attempting to offer those three languages.

Edit: And not based completely on the originals. In this thread (http://forum.magicball.net/showthrea...368#post451368) it was found out the GoG LBA 1 version is slightly updated - has the barrels surrounding the sewer entrance in the Proxima Island museum, while those barrels are absent in the European and US CD versions.

While the first version didn't have barrels there, I believe that is an update that Adeline did, when the company existed.

- Polaris: Yes, that update appears in the 1995 floppy version already. GoG must have just taken LBA_GRI.HQR from there.
