Eternal mindshine of the spotless sun...

Darkflame 2008-10-06 21:37

*groan*

This is cool;

Maybe we will one day be able to touch virtual objects too.

Jasiek 2008-10-07 04:17

Wait, they can generate a "pressure field" and all you're thinking is some run of the mill stuff like vr?? Damn it! This thing, given enough power might have dozens of applications! From car bumpers and "air bags" to "hover" craft... even shields protecting stuff from projectiles...

ChaosFish 2008-10-07 05:13

HOVERCRAFTS!!

I've been waiting for so long.

Darkflame 2008-10-07 18:10

I dont think its that powerfull.
It can make you feel presure, but it wouldnt stop anything like a solid object would.

Jasiek 2008-10-07 20:56

YET! ;) The sheer fact of generating a single region in space with more pressure is already astounding.

Darkflame 2008-10-07 21:05

Indeed.
I was confident I would one day live in a part-virtual world. But I didnt dare to dream Id be able to touch it too ;)

Dino-Fly 2008-10-07 21:10

This + AR technology could hold the future.

Darkflame 2008-10-17 02:10

This isnt so much hi-tech as just a really nice idea;

Bot13 2008-10-17 02:11

Maybe this will be DHARMA someday:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20360859/

Darkflame 2008-10-17 02:35

Yes, but DHARMA has a supply of exotic mater already, they dont need other methods. :p

Personaly, I still think time-travel theorys are just overcomplicating things.
Gravity works in 4 dimensions, therefor if you go near an area something dense *used* to be, you will be pulled back in time slightly. (or rather, you would decelerate in time compared to everything else...so things would look like they slowed down to you).

I think something of suffient density...like a black hole, should be able to just pull you back in time.
The problem is, the blackhole would have to move, because being where the blackhole *is* isnt any good, you gota be where it used to be.

Another vision of our AR future;

Really nice concept video, even if I could nit-pick some stuff.

oh, and real pilots were flying against virtual ones;
http://www.techradar.com/news/gaming...ponents-476319

Real pilots won.
Still, cool image;

No idea what the connection is to the artical though :p

Zerath^ 2008-10-18 14:27

To be honest that looks very lame :p but who knows.

Jasiek 2008-10-18 19:58

Yeah I second that, it looks extremely stupid. I can't stand people with blue-tooth ear pieces, let alone walking with a "visor"...

ChaosFish 2008-10-18 22:15

Looks like some dystopian alternate reality from Doctor Who.

Augmented Reality software ready for the launch of the first Google Andriod enabled phones.
Basicaly, you point at a landmark, and it brings up information on it.

ChaosFish 2008-10-24 19:54

Awesome, Google really scored a big one!

Darkflame 2008-10-26 23:03

BBC has got a little AR advert for their Merlin series here;

http://www.bbc.co.uk/merlin/#/games/magiceye/

Basicaly, you can download it, print out a marker, and it shows videos alligned to where the market is.
Nicely, the program looks easy to edit for your own videos (there just wmv files in the tricks directory), allthough I havnt tried yet.

the_angry_monkey 2008-10-28 15:28

The google thing is pretty neat - will definitely be considering the migration from Win Mobile to Android and the G1 next contract

Darkflame 2008-11-07 16:13

Some more neat G1 thingys. (allthough not nesscery exxclusive)

Music recognition software;

Barcode scanning/product comparison:

both pretty neat.

oh, and another demo of the tilting google street view thing;

Yeah, the hexagon always amazes me.

Pretty sure thats heavily false-coloured image, but still cool.
