Lifthers are always a fun thing to play with, no one really knows why they fly... couse the ion wind they create is too slow to create drag.

I just had an idea: So about that hovering engine thing?
Wouldn't it be super amazing if they made shoes that use that engine? You could just carry the battery/whatever on your back, and fly... |
No, it would be extremely dangerous and energy consuming, and would need huge motors.
Maybe if you could turn back your potential/gravity energy when you're in the air to become electricity when you fall back on ground ^^. nah, impossible :p |
Lifters take an absolutely insanely large voltage, and (despite what the conspiracy theorys tell you), they dont work in a vacum.
Still very cool things though. |

|
The first is very cool, but the seconds a bit meh. (allthough naturaly a lot easier to make).
The first isnt out of the realm of possibility though, epaper is getting very good these days. Flexible colour screens have already been made in prototype form. Maybe combined with some artifial muscle material. (that contracts with current). |
|
New? That article is from a year ago.
|
Well, the technology has been around for a while, but afaik Sony was the first company to commercially release one at CES this year.
|
So awesome. I can't wait till they return full time, they're so much more economic then ships are...

Indeed.
That one looks more realistic then the one with a swimming pool ontop :p |
A new commercial jet plane :D

Wicked! But.. where's the windows? Is it built of one-way transparent material, perhaps?
* Homeless imagines 'terrorists' using it for 'terrorist attacks'. Looks awful lot like an missile. |
No windows, you wouldn't really see much too with 5 times the speed of sound. windows would rpobably create vortexes of air on the hull. There will be cameras all over.

Maybe the plane was planned by steve jobs :p j/k |

Also, windows let in natural light. I'm sure the final design will have windows. Vortexs are generated, but its possible to have near-perfect smooth outsides. (after all, SpaceShipTwo, as well as fighter planes have windows) |
We have photographed the electron;
http://www.physorg.com/news122897584.html http://www.atto.fysik.lth.se/video/emovie.mov By "we", I mean, humans. Not us personaly. |
Wowza
This is exciting. Will the next step be finding smaller particles the electron is made of? |
quarks or strings are a wee bit too small me thinks :p
Of course, one day maybe we will be using "black hole microscopes" to see things, bending the light ver a perfect space lens. |
|
Quite a neat concept.
I dont find it that creepy, I wouldnt want a screen or a wireless under my own skin as I think the risks outweigh benifits. But human-source power from the blood isnt a bad one. Lots of devices only need to use a tiny constant feed of power...vastely less then our bodys produced and use. So that ideology could have some benifits. Of course, the preferance would be for heat differential energy extraction from the surface*, or kenetic dampening. *Or even direct heat people. Heat is motion, is energy. On the atomic level it should be possible to convert hot to cold+electricity. Could be a usefull thing in summer. However, present physics prevents that and requires a heat difference. |
So they're turning a human... into this? http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...MH_2500mAh.jpg
No! I don't believe it! |
The matrix is near! :D , cool thing about the electron though!
