Yeah, and eventually you'll end up ona a beach somewhere, and you'll realize that the sun is a bit read, the sea is vaporizing and humans had left, and took all animals with them.

Jasiek 2006-11-19 01:15

Darkflame 2006-11-19 17:34

"A mission that will scour space for Earth-like planets is scheduled for launch on Wednesday."
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/6203161.stm

According to the news, Corot satellite may find human inhabitable planets that are a few times larger than earth on far away solar systems.

That is gonna be so awesome. I wanna live on another planet :D

Which reminds me I only have 5 days left to get to the moon!! ARG, WHAT TO DO WHAT TO DO!

Damn you, Bazooka Joe!

Darkflame 2006-12-26 14:34

Fantastic stuff.
Allthough we have to wait awhile longer for the truely earth-sized stuff.

Jasiek 2006-12-26 14:36

Space thread
Cough

:p

Yeah, it's awesome :]
There's a plan for a different kind of a satelite after this one, wich will had a black plastic parasole, to chield the light of the stars behind it, they say it will be able to make topographic maps of planets... And there's this telescope made of two rotating telescopes, wich will also be somehting huge :].

ChaosFish 2006-12-26 19:17

Oops, forgot about the space thread :fool:

Darkflame 2007-02-09 14:27

It is pretty good indeed.
Battary replacement nesscity is the current killer, however. Probably have to be done every 2-3 years of ownership.

However, its good they thought of includeing it in the price:

But reuse is such a key part of our philosophy, we’re doing our best to arrange to have our car batteries safely recycled — even before we’ve sold our first car. Our goal is to include the cost of recycling in the purchase price of each car.

I've heard about this thing a long time ago, but that's the first time I see it. Awesomeness!
I heard it's also cheap to manufacture and also requires very little power (can run on a battery). So it might substitute newspapers/magazines someday... instead of being made of paper they would be made of this thing.

Darkflame 2007-05-31 02:19

Both Philips and Sony have very good flexible OLED screens.
The problem is the lifetime is currently quite short for a commercial product. (eg, a few years at best).
Getting better though.

And its absolutely perfect for augmented reality :)
(light, low power, thin, and fairly easy to have a transparent backtoo...perfect for AR specs)

Hmmm, I meant this one, They show regular monitors using the technology there.

I find the idea of augmented reality very, very disturbing and dangerous, people walking around, living in a self created lie, removed from the real world. And what if someome want sto erase car traffic becouse he hates cars, and then he will fall under one? Or what if someone can't fit into the society? A possibility of recreating the reality in his own accord will only further remove him from reality, instead oh helping him to blend in.

Not to mention all those mental illnesses that will follow, people with have trouble percieving what is real and what is not after some time.

If you can't really, physically shape and change the reality I can't see why anyone would lie to himself.

That sensopac project made a real working human like chip-cerebellum, here's their site:

Echomote 2007-05-31 15:13

Ooooh can imagine handheld consoles using that screen. The console could bend to fit your hands

You can say that about any upcoming groundbreaking technology.

You could say more-or-less the same about video games, porn, tv comedies, anti pregnancy pills, audio recorders, coca-cola, and more and more and more.

I trust humanity to overcome the obstacles that a new technology presents and finally just benefit from the advancement. There will always be drawbacks, nothing is pure good, everything has pros and cons - but at the end, there will be more pros than cons.

Augmented reality will make us able to express ourselves a lot more freely. Why should you bother buying nifty clothes and get an expensive haircut, when you can just wear some sort of a blank suit and just choose an avatar for how you'd like people to see you? What's so bad about that?

If someone chooses to erase cars from his vision, well he's an idiot, and if not for augmented reality then he'd probably find another way to kill himself.
