"the futures already here, its just not very well distributed"

Also been watching this:

About a solar-powered city being built, mostly recycled and has a underground electric car network O_o

Major progress towards single stage space flight:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-20510112

I been following this awhile, while its slow going, this really seems a really good chance of vastly cheaper space flights within the decade.

How the hell can I make a sandwich joke out of a NASA threesome? The closest I could probably get would be a lame reference to tang or a comment on the Sea of Tranquility.

Carajo 2013-01-27 19:18

Didn't know where else to put this and I didn't want to make a new thread. Though I should.

But this is cool.

That is just so horrible/over the top/stupid !!!

(I guess it's not the reaction you were expecting |)')

Streg 2013-02-04 21:44

The commercial is cool... Too bad it's for internet explorer :P

Darkflame 2013-02-05 19:48

Not really tech news, but one cool space picture from the ISS:

(taken by the guitar guy, incidentally, he tweets from space a lot)

Polaris 2013-02-05 21:35

Where on earth is that ?

So, it's the sea further away ? Anyway, beautiful :)

Darkflame 2013-02-06 00:03

I think so yes, the pacific.

Darkflame 2013-04-07 13:48

I wasnt aware we had this tech already:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-21796888

Basically Samsungs new phone can detect fingers above the screen without touching.
It also knows where you are looking via eye-tracking.

I'm always amazed how the human body can function at zero gravity, considering the human being was never made to/evolved from/etc exist in such conditions.

Does all animals survive in zero gravity as well? none of them make use of gravity for their internal organs to function properly?

Polaris 2013-04-08 21:31

I believe the blood flow uses gravity somehow... Anyway you're right, it's strange that we can function...

Darkflame 2013-04-08 21:50

Indeed.
Our bones and muscles deteriorate a bit, which is why those on the ISS have to exercise 2 hours a day.

But really, yes, its astonishing how well we deal with zero-g.

I guess we do so well as a side effect of being able to jump, roll, fall over, swim etc. Our bodys arnt too angle sensitive.

Darkflame 2013-04-16 11:18

Win a trip into space :

http://klm.com/space

Nice to see the competition for space tourism is picking up. $100,000 is a lot cheaper then virgins $200,000.

Polaris 2013-04-16 11:30

Wow...

Darkflame 2013-04-24 10:26

Speaking of wow...this is just $80 and out very soon:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_d6KuiuteIA

Comes with free SDK too.

Darkflame 2013-04-24 12:47

This is pretty cool too; wringing out water on the ISS:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=o8TssbmY-GM

Looks really alien the way it goes around his hand.

Polaris 2013-04-24 13:27

Zero gravity is just so awesome.

"Bags can't hold water in space." Never thought of that
Funny how our everyday life reflexes don't apply up there.

That leap motion thingy is interesting aswell, but isn't it the exact same thing as the kinect ?

Darkflame 2013-04-24 13:32

Yes, its next gen Kinect basically - same company behind it.
Frankly amazed microsoft didn't buy them out.

What excites me is the hacking/homewbrew possibility - there was all sorts of stuff made for the Kinect despite it being designed for the xbox. This time you got a tiny, pretty cheap device with much better specs and they are positively encouraging developments.
