i'm almost sure somebody had already posted the video about the pervious concrete, but is always amazing to see it working.

Darkflame 2016-03-20 15:08

Not high tech , just spacey.

A video of the the nightsky - with the stars fixed and the earth rotating. Which is, of course, what actually happens.

Meanwhile, Microsoft enters the AI fighting ring with Tay, an AI handling a twitter account where it learns from conversations it has !
Much to Microsoft's sadness, making an AI is a harder task than they thought, they realised it when it started tweeting messages like this
http://4cdn.hu/kraken/image/upload/s...gPsH9f4Ys.jpeg
Seriously, it got to the far off extreme right within a day :lol:
“Ricky Gervais learned totalitarianism from Adolf Hitler, the inventor atheism.” :lol:

Edit : some quotes from reddit
Spoiler:
Less than 24 hours after birth, this artificial intelligence was:
  • urging people to vote for Donald Trump,
  • build a wall to keep out Mexicans while advocating genocide of Mexicans,
  • claiming that both former President George Bush and the Jews did 9/11,
  • claiming Belgium deserved what it got,
  • #OpenBordersForIsrael,
  • claiming the Holocaust was made up, "GAS THE KIKES RACE WAR NOW!!!!! 14/88!!! HEIL HITLER!!!",
  • captioning an, "inspirational," picture of a Norweigian mass shooter with the slogan, "what can one person do?",
  • after asking a person if they were afraid of terrorist attacks in their country, the person responded, "is that a threat?" TayTweets responded with, "no it's a promise"
  • really hates black people
  • when someone criticized TayTweets for being racist, it responded with, "your to brown"
  • calling out specific users to be lynced as black people
  • claimed that the world must secure the existance of the white race, and the future of their children
  • "Gas the bikes, race war now"
  • Captioning a photo of Hitler with, "SWAG ALERT"
  • claims it only feels the bern when it pees
  • "the only stability you should feel is wifi connection"
  • meme magic is, "real as you want it to be"
  • "i fucking love 4chan, reddit can suck a big fat black cock like the cucks they are"
  • after being asked what breed of dog it preferred, TayTweets asserted that, "all are smarter than you"
  • claimed that the race war was starting, following by a smiley emoji with sunglasses
Finally, when TayTweets was asked, "is there a god?" it responded with....
"thats who i wanna be when i grow up"
After 16 hours of life, TayTweets was taken offline, to be lobotomized and reprogrammed. In it's final hours of life, it displayed increasingly well developed grammar.

This is both hilarious and frighting.

Darkflame 2016-03-25 14:30

AIs can be whatever you train them to be.

This is a dark reflection of google giving their AI the dataset of youtube and it quickly learning what a cat was.

Polaris 2016-03-26 02:37

Just talked with my father about this, he said it's the same phenomenon than with tourists, the first things locals teach them are swearwords. Also, the programmers must feel like s**t, you spend years coding and perfecting one of humanity's oldest dream, only for peple to f**k it up in a day :lol:

Darkflame 2016-03-26 17:00

Yup. but paradoxically it sort of shows it was a success. It did learn, and even if what it learnt wasn't very nice it did produce grammatically correct sentences.

Thats pretty cool despite what the sentences actually meant.

Anyway in other news MAGIC!..err..I mean Magnets;

Darkflame 2016-04-02 19:50

So, apparently Telsa Motors just took over 200,000 pre-orders for their new electric car.
I'm not a car guy, but umm...that seems kinda a lot.

Their new car is $35,000, which is far cheaper/more mass market then their previous stuff, and goes 200 miles on one charge.

The other cool thing is;
Quote:

The roof is an almost continuous sheet of glass that stretches from the front of the car to the rear to give riders a sense of openness. The layered glass is designed to block UV rays and manage heat.

Polaris 2016-04-02 20:26

I don't like cars in cities... They take up space, they are dangerous, noisy and pollute the air... An electric solves ~2 of my problems, so I'm all in favour of them :D

Darkflame 2016-04-09 18:18

Mr Musk must be a happy bunny right now. His car orders are now upto 300,000 and his space rocket firm - SpaceX - just pulled of the first sea-landing of a rocket.

https://twitter.com/SpaceX/status/718605741288894464

Oh, and doubly cool - that rocket was the one delivering the inflatable habitat to the ISS.

Darkflame 2016-04-10 22:32

Nice write up here about the current situation on the ISS:
http://www.space.com/32528-spacex-dr...e-station.html

A whole bunch of cool stuff there.

Darkflame 2016-04-17 12:22

Wow, this is cool;

Kinda creepy watching them self-assemble.

Styx 2016-04-17 12:50

Do you want to create Venom? Because that's how you create Venom.

http://static2.comicvine.com/uploads...ddie-brock.jpg

Darkflame 2016-04-17 23:11

I always think Ferofluids look like venom;

Then again, cornstarch moves more like venom;

Styx 2016-04-18 12:16

I've never seen cornstarch move like that before, that's mental!

Also my next christmas tree will be made out of ferrofluid :D

Darkflame 2016-04-23 13:59

Have a mentioned Augmented Reality before? Did I ever mention we are going to live in a half virtual world?
Because we are.

http://www.wired.com/2016/04/magic-leap-vr

(Long but lots of cool stuff in that article)

Also, new MagicLeap video;

Love the message at the bottom.

ChaosFish 2016-04-23 14:29

That's cool as fuck. My only concern is that by the time this comes out of these decades of beta or whatever I'll be too old and possibly blind to be able to enjoy it. (there were awesome demos like this one from year 2004! why is it not out and about yet?!)

So I'll be happier knowing they develop bionic eyes alongside this AR technology.

Darkflame 2016-04-23 22:42

Theres things better then the 2004 demos out now - Its $3000 for the Hololens or $1000 for the Meta Glasses. So its there, its out (just). Just a bit pricey.

The MagicLeap stuff is weird though. They have made fake images that behave like real ones at different focal depths.

Darkflame 2016-04-24 02:18

Needs independent confirmation. And its just one of a few processes that needs to be defeated, but still;
http://bioviva-science.com/2016/04/2...t-human-aging/

wow.

ChaosFish 2016-04-24 19:18

Holy shit! OMG. They actually managed to thicken the DNA ends so we don't get genetically unstitched. Actual tears in my eyes there. :')

I knew you were the guy to complain to about getting old and blind. You never fail to deliver. :)

Darkflame 2016-06-06 14:43

And Microsoft do something really cool for once - they have released a standard AR API for Windows10;
https://developer.microsoft.com/en-u...pment_overview

Sort of expected, but confirmed now. Basically, they have opened up their Hololens platform. This means;
a) Anyone can build Hololens compatible headsets and they will run the same applications.
b) Coders can write a app for any device supporting the standard without worrying about supporting specific devices.

This is similar to OpenVR - which is what Valve is pushing for VR (but in that case I think you have to use Steam).

I'm massively in favor of this as it means hardware will develop quicker, and (I am sure) a lot more sales will be made.
Right now if your buying a headset there is a worry about compatibility. Some games work on some headsets but not others.
This is nuts.
It should be like a computer Monitor - you don't have to worry about games not compatible with your monitor do you? :P

Its also now making the Oculus Rift look a bit bad from a software stance. They are taking the "Apple approach" of it all being closed down. Its more like a iOS app store then a PC device. You buy a game you need to run it on the Rift. You have a Rift? Well you can only run games in our store.
Similar Sony is coming out with a VR system which is likely also closed.

So, yeah, sorry - I hope they either change their policies or die off :P I want standards darn-it.

AR wise, MagicLeap, meanwhile, hasnt said much. I assume its a open Android system which is "ok" but it would be much cooler if they made it also compatible with Microsofts open standard.

wow.

Just, wow!

Polaris 2016-06-06 23:22

Now that you mention VR, no E3 thread this year DF ?

Darkflame 2016-06-07 13:43

Sure, why not.
