my first lba1 map

I thought to post my first map in here, if anyone wants to try it :tongue2:
screenshots:
Spoiler:

Its just 1 scene at the moment, but it should hopefully keep you playing for a few minutes, and it has a skill level selection at start :p
how to install:
1. Make a backup of your lba folder
2. Replace the contents of your lba folder, with the one in the archive.

how to uninstall:
1.replace the contents of your lba folder, with the contents of your backup folder.
(2. remove backup)

Edit: Download (v2 with some fixes)

feedback appreciated

LBAWinOwns 2008-11-15 15:58

OMG!

I'm going to try it as soon as I switch to a comp that can run LBA1!

What tools did you use for creating this map ?

Kobold 2008-11-15 17:45

This looks awesome.

How do you get to that single scene? Do you start a new game? Or use the savegame editor to get to a certain point?

to make this map I used:
all you probably need for getting started is, LBArchitect(newest beta) + LBA Package Editor. though the documentation is kinda lacking, so I had to refer to a text file in LBAStoryCoder 0.5.0 and a help file that is not accessible in the program menus in LBArchitect.

yes, just start a new game, its the first scene in the game.
But I wouldn't recommend using savegame editors, the scripts might not be completely compatible with whatever settings you set with a savegame editor :?

Kobold 2008-11-15 18:19

It worked and it was great. Just the sound was all messed up. Some sound effects (like floor sounds or Twinsen getting hit) sometimes don't play. Could be a problem with my damaged headset, I'll try regular LBA 1 later and tell you if I have the problem there as well.

Just one thing: Why do you restart from the beginning of the scene when you lose a life, without a "Game Over" screen appearing?

..well I got this problem sometimes too ingame, but I aswell have a bit damaged headset, Its not just LBA, I have rather frequently sounds not playing properly in my headset :-/ so Its kinda hard to tell wether its my map or my headset :p
It could also be a lba bug with rather frequent ambient sounds.. I used the same ambient setup as in white leaf desert (where the old rabibunny is) .. I wonder if the same happens there?

Thats kinda the normal behaviour: if you die, the game checks if you have clover leafs, if you have some, it takes you to the specified scene in the current scene. As I didnt have any 'jail' scenes, I just made it point to the first one. Once you run out of clover leafs, you get the "Game Over" as usual.

LBAWinOwns 2008-11-15 18:53

What parts was the most difficult and least self-explanatory when using LBArchitect? afaik LBArchitect hasn't got enough feedback from users :)

Kobold 2008-11-15 18:55

Maybe I just imagine that the clover leaf system was sort of like LBA 2. Apparently it wasn't.

When you load your existing savegame after completing the scene, the game crashes. I had to delete the savegame and start a new one to play it again. In the regular LBA 1, you can always play the last battle with FunFrock again after finishing.

I also saw a problem at the dialogue box in the beginning. I'm playing the game in German with my proof-read texts, but the second option is simply too long to fit.

http://forum.magicball.net/attachmen...1&d=1226767765

Though of course this also happens in the regular game.

Kitarii 2008-11-15 21:52

I also experience some weird sound faults when playing this.
But you deserve a round of applause, sir!
This was really excellent, the whole scene works (minus the sound).
And you're the first to release any kind of playable LBA mod!
Really impressed, I hope you make more.

LBAWinOwns 2008-11-15 21:55

Kobold, why did you spoil you can talk to the cactus :-( ?

Anyway, you did translate the map as well :s ?

One round of applause? I would say at least two!

Kobold 2008-11-15 22:00

It's not a secret, it happens immidately when starting the game. You can't stop it.

well I didnt really have problems understanding the gui, the problems were more like generally modding lba, as there isn't much information on how everything works. Nor is there much documentation on storycoding, which took quite some effort to figure out at least. :?

ok, I got this 'fixed' on the new version, but still loading the game, wount take you back to the desert scene, but the to the final scene in this mod. so its not very usefull to load one.. but at least it doesnt crash :p

uhh yeah, i've yet to figure out another choice in there instead :confused2:

huh really? I thought these tools had been there for quite some time at least.. ..well in that case I guess I set the standard for new mods :p

umm nope, the thing is, I didnt use a custom text.hqr, so every message is right from the original game.. wether that is a good thing or not I dont know.. but I've tried to use them in ways that fit the surroundings, at least somewhat..

fixed version added in #1 post.

Kobold 2008-11-16 13:42

I don't think you have to change the text, it's only a joke after all. I just wanted to point that out - options in those boxes should usually be as short as possible. ;)

The new version crashes right after the intro.

well yeah, it cant be too serious if its a conversation with a cactus :p but yeah, I could possibly change it, but then, it wouldnt be translated to other languages ( unless I'd use a translator or something) and then there is ofcourse the voice samples too.. :-/

This sounds like you copied the new version over the old version replacing the old version of my mod with the new files.. Which will cause this crash, as this new version has different scene indexes, and does not have a layout library resource anymore. :bin:
So when you replace the old version with v2, one file from the old version stays there, and causes it to crash.

you can either install it on a normal lba directory (that has not the old version in it), or you could copy the original LBA_BLL.hqr in the modded lba directory. this should fix it ;)

edit: and dont try opening old savegames from v1 or original game with v2, they'll most certainly crash.

Kobold 2008-11-16 15:00

Oh, I'll just copy the old BLL.hqr in the folder.

LBAWinOwns 2008-11-16 22:28

Played it :)

It was awesome :)

Kobold 2008-11-16 23:23

The sound problem has been fixed, definitely. Everything works fine now.
What's the point of the
Spoiler:
cherry syrup
?

Kitarii 2008-11-16 23:26

Yeah I thought you were going to need it in some strange situation.
Cool that you put it in though.
Gotta try your update, but is there anything different in the grid?
I already played the original twice, it's so cool. :D

The grid has a different difficulty depending on which option you choose in the dialogue in the beginning. The first option is easy, the second one is medium, the third one is hard mode. ;)
The second version added a new funny introduction grid and also a new joke grid in the end.

Kitarii 2008-11-16 23:31

Alright I'll play it through...
Not like I have anything better to do.

Kitarii 2008-11-17 02:41

Okay played it through, I like the end scene, leaves a bit of mystery!
I was hoping to talk to the characters in there though.
Anyway I made a little "speedrun" of your level.
Watch it here.
Obviously if you haven't played the level yet this video is a spoiler!

Echomote 2008-11-17 02:57

This is awesome. You should make some levels where you have to dodge and sneak past enemies without any weapons (ie, no magicball) too :D

ChaosFish 2008-11-17 04:04

Finally!!!!!!

Thanks Inventor! You win a thousand cookies. It's about time someone makes LBA levels for download. I'll play it as soon as I have LBA installed.

Bot13 2008-11-17 13:10

Very nice. Real contribution to the MBN. :D

Kobold 2008-11-17 15:41

Another thing I noticed.
Spoiler:

In the final scene, you can kill the elves. They will only take 1 damage. Maybe you should make then invincible. ;)

nice run :D

if we start counting after you did the multichoice 0:21, and end at 2:13 where the scene fades out, your time is 1:52 :diploma:
can anyone do better? :p

yeah, I was thinking of making a prison break map, where you'd have to sneak your way out most of the part, and with puzzles etc.

heh, ok I might make them invincible, if I make another update for it :p
thanks for playing ;)

I also made a small arena/invasion sabre training map :p
screenshot:
Spoiler:

err, it was my umm.. brother playing that, I wouldn't loose like that :o:p

warning: this one is really tough if you choose the hardest setting :p
how to install:
1. Make a backup of your lba folder
2. Replace the contents of your lba folder, with the one in the archive.

Download (you can replace the desertbase files with this one, same files are replaced)

Kitarii 2008-11-17 18:37

So we can play speedruns on the first level you made, and see how long we can last on this new one!
Downloading right now. :)
I feel like I should try and get my run perfect if we're competing though!
I made a lot of errors.
Btw, does your first desert grid have a level name?
So I can call my video something better than Inventor's LBA Grid...

The new level can be finished too, though maybe its too frustrating for speedrunning :p

it seemed like you had "hit walls when running" disabled, something to note for anyone else who makes a speedrun, to have the same settings, so that its fair ;)

well I just named it "desertbase" on my archive :p, but if anyone has a better idea for the name, feel free to suggest anything

Kitarii 2008-11-17 19:41

Yeah I finished the Grobo Invasion, it's not really a video level though.
Nice work, I was hoping to go somewhere after opening the door!

Kobold 2008-11-17 19:46

I finished the first and second difficulty for the Grobo stage, but the third level is giving me a hard time.
I also found the Spoiler:
tavern
in the desert grid, though I had to use the LBArchitect.

Necdilzor 2008-11-17 20:44

OMG! Downloading, NOW!!!

Necdilzor 2008-11-17 21:55

Hey, this is awesomely cool!!! But I have problems in the tavern, where do I use the syrup???

Polaris 2008-11-17 21:56

loks very nice, I'll try it asap

Spoiler:
By "tavern" he doesn't mean the scene at the end. The "tavern" is actually the toilet house in the desert grid.

Necdilzor 2008-11-18 00:05

err, of course I know.

bunnyrabbot02 2008-11-18 11:21

I'm curious about how you managed to get the yellow ball to kill red clones.

The character models aren't associated with their life points/magic level. You can modify them all individually. ;)

Polaris 2008-11-18 22:59

Just played them, they are absolutely fantastic ! Really, congratulations !
(I discovered that I was good at LBA only because I know the levels, else two clones are enough to defeat me |))

by the way, shouldn't we do some kind of championship, like who survives the longest time in the arena ?

Kitarii 2008-11-18 23:36

The arena doesn't last forever, after you finish the grobos you can leave the area.

Polaris 2008-11-19 14:09

I know, but... all right

Kitarii 2008-11-20 00:06

More video?!

I'll video it later probably.
