The way the robot works is really easy to deduce. You harden all the plates beside the ones that will work as pushers and then you inflate the actuator inside. As it expands, the non-compressive fluid around it goes the only way it can and pushes out the unhardened part. That pushes the robot forward. You just teach the program how to repeat that and it makes the necessary corrections for the robot to move.
The thing about the interstellar/solar wind is really astounding (seen it already). We predicted that the solar systems shape would be that of a drop, protruding away from the galaxy center, instead it looks like the interstellar wind is coming at as from an upper angle, and it's not uniform with the plane of ecliptic. Meaning there has to be some other, stronger source of the interstellar wind! |
Indeed.
Only other possibility is something is distorting/deflecting it around somehow. Seems unlikely though. --- More 3D reconstruction, this time on a smaller scale; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEOmz...layer_embedded Ive seen stuff like that before, but no where near that slick. Wont be long at this rate before modelling physically existing objects in 3D becomes completely redundant. And AR to see though objects; http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~pbarnum/seeth...eethrough.html http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~pbarnum/seeth...s/results2.jpg (well, reprojecting from other angles, but still neat) |

50 years of space exploration. Big pic. http://www.aukevisser.nl/supertankers/id316.htm The construction of a tanker. I can't believe what I'm going to say... but... it's a really cool (argh!) invention from... microsoft!!! (phew, made it): http://gizmodo.com/5365299/courier-f...-secret-tablet |
If you say something Microsoft made is good, it must be really good.
|
Dunno, folding designs are certainly good as you maximise screenspace and protect the device while transporting it.
But Ive never got on well with Tablets. Despite using a Wacom normally 100% for my pc use, every time Ive tried a tablet, somehow the stylus controll seems a lot more clunky when over the screen. I don't think hand-controll where you physically have to touch the screen will be any better. I think Id rather see a more minimalist/smaller design. A foldable ebook device, which focus's on readability and portability but still provides better value then Kindle type things. Quote:

Um, the pic was A LOT bigger when I first pasted it... With readable fonts an all..

I'm not seeing anything but a bandwidth exceeded message :-/

Cool robot wonder when they will be brave enough to test it untethered.

Was their a key to go with it though? Not sure what the colours mean? |
I think the original was interactive. Frankly I hate those and would rather be given an image like this one - that's why I looked for the pic.
If you google 50 years of space exploration you should find it. |

An augmented reality tamagochi-like game for the PS3. No idea if you posted it yet. Seems really futile using this on a tv... |

Yes, Ive seen that it looks neat.
My only crit is to me it looks like it is really only interacting on a 2D plane, even though obviously its all 3d. I assume this is limitations with the camera algorithm. I'm surprised Microsoft hasn't done something like it, as they wouldn't have the same limitation. Also, I think I heard almost a year ago sony was going to release a psp camera for some ar games :-/ Nothing really happened there. |
|
ARES 1 in flight?? Is that CGI or a real shot? I thought they didn't fly yet... I read there was some problems with it not being stable.
|
Its real. And isn't that shockwave just beautiful?
I assume it was from this; http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/NASA_com...Ares_IX_rocket I dont know 100% myself because I got the picture of another forum, but given the url it seems legit. |
Not exactly news, but gobsmackingly wonderfull is these 3D Mandelbrot fractal images;

While browsing the videos on that site I also came accross these bits of niftyness;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kI42Iw6O7Ls 3D Renders where the light emission has been slowed down. This is a fantastic example for how simulations can give us new eyes to the universe, showing things we just couldn't perceive in real life. (well, not without standing in the middle of a Bose-Einstein condensate...) |

http://www.google.com/search?q=water...n09-hp&oi=ddle Water on the moon confirmed now, in pretty big quantitys. Google's probably celebrating for their own luner plans :p |
Hmm, I think i'm moving to mars, I won't be alone there...:-/
|
For all I knew water on the moon was already found. Kinda odd they now bring the news agian.. only to add that there is "a lot" of it. Hehe.
|
Fun Fact: Since the fallout following the Chernobyl incident, 99.99% of the Earth's water has been inflicted with a small amount of radioactive radiation. As far as we know it's completely harmless, but still it's a very rare occasion to find water that aren't inflicted.
|
I think given the shear volume of the earths oceans, natural radiation would have swamped the artificial.

Its gone from "maybe" to "probably" and is currently "almost certainty". |
