Actually I don't mean just orbital weapon platforms. I mean all firearms and "tools designed to harm or kill".

Well, it won't affect us guys so much.
|
Personaly I plan on living for the next decade, dunno about you :P
Or did you mean the oil? That too could be well within our lifetime. |
|
Yeah, that, Darkflame meant that it would probably happen in the next decade.
|
Yea and I meant it won't happen to us :p
|
because women aren't for tecnology? :P
|
Nah, cause we/I'll never talk to women, duh!
whoups, I mean it's because we'll all get five stars! :D Or actually to be honest we'll just get 0.5 stars :( But that's just because the software can't display 5.5 stars properly! Ok I just can't go on killing more innocent brain cells from you and me :p |
Oh, I see, your point was not time based, but rather we are all awsume.
I can buy that :D |
Cool short film;
http://vimeo.com/3365942?pg=embed&sec= I can see the future of 3D modeling being exactly like that. |

Yeah, saw that, it's cool, really touching in fact. But imho it's the dream of the lazy modeler texture-wise. People just model stuff then search for texture's someone else made instead of painting their own, of course sometimes that's perfectly ok, but I'm talking about people who only model, and can't paint textures.
|
Kinda.
Most textures are just photos made seamless mind you. Its a bit silly to make a generic brick wall texture from scratch. Also most 3d modeling packages come with a vaste range of textures, and theres shitloads of freeware textures on the net. Thats assumeing, of course, that by the time we have full AR modeling systems we arnt using mostly procedral textures anyway. I notice you never saw him UV-mapping anything :P |

Think it's the Eros/Cupid and Psyche theme. Well the start of the story anyway. :) |

But it is nesscerly even with stuff like rage. For the moment anyway. As long as 3D Models require the conversion of a irregular skin of a surface to a 2D plan, some form of co-ordinate mapping is needed. Laying stamps isnt much good for charecter or creature work, and nor is it good for doing, say, a brickwall.(get tedious pretty darn quick). Aside from that, I think Rage, much like DeepPaint3D, still needs a UVmap, it just means you can paint in-context so it dosnt need to be as good. (that is, when painting between seams it automaticaly will wrap around for you, and all distortions are compansated for). Still, I'm pretty sure bad UVs will be visible in a Rage game because youd see texture-resolution change irregularly. Personaly, I like the idea of procedral 3d textures. Youd still want to use stamps and painting for details, but these could act as "bucket fills" in 3d space, which you can adjust and blend. Infinite detail, and always perfect for the geometry. Its amazing really how much you can do just by blending noise textures on different scales and itterations. |
Rather creepy AR talk thing -
http://gamesalfresco.com/2009/03/09/...s-at-warm-2009 I dont think that sort of voiceover is going to help dispel peoples skynet fears :P |

That guy stole the words out of my mouth. I didn't really learn anything new from this but it's nice to see someone speaks the truth. I'm sure he made it look like John Henry from The Terminator on purpose. Also, the guy is from Israel (woo for that) so it's understandable, if his English accent is half as horrible as mine. |
Ok :P
Btw, this is looking to be a cool AR game: http://www.yankodesign.com/images/de...gumented_1.jpg http://www.yankodesign.com/2009/03/1...h-toys-and-ar/ |
I'm SO gonna play that all the time and I don't care if everybody will point and laugh.
|
Absolutely.
Lego AND AR? And to top it off, that HUD will make you feel like Samus Aran. Also, it seems AR interest is rising pretty sharply; http://www.facebook.com/ext/share.ph...=iQyT9&u=AV4JM |
Woah, Looks like 2009 is a year for AR.
(lol, eh eer for ey aar) |
Oh, how jolly.
|
You know, people don't say the word wondrous enough. I'll start using it more often. It's wondrous of you to bring that to my attention!
|
I changed it to jolly though.

panspermia-hypothisis supporters will sure as hell be pleased with that. |

|
Not really, theres still good evidence life developed on earth, or that multiple-seperate developments of life are also possible.
|
Oh so that's what panspermia is. The Babylon dictionary definition mislead me. (it said "n. theory that life in the universe is spread by spores or bacteria which develop in a suitable environment (Biology)")
|
Well, that is what it is.
But it can be misleading the way its phrased/ Basicaly, the options are; Did life develope a) Here (earth) b) There (somewhere in space) c) Everywhere. (lots of places in space) This evidence makes b) and c) more likely. (that is, b and c become more possible, but dosnt make a less likely) The wikipedia artical has an interesting breakdown of evidence; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panspermia |
Guess what I'm posting folks! ....yes thats right, more AR stuff :P
The Games Developer Conferance is on at the moment, and a few things are being shown off; Vuzix Lego AR demo: http://gamesalfresco.com/2009/03/26/...er-conference/ Important things to note in this demo is its using a real HMD, but not the cool optical one released later this year. Also, pay attention to the hand, it moves *behind* the lego...probably colour-keying, but still smart to see in real time. Zombies and some..err.Racing board game? http://gamesalfresco.com/2009/03/26/...er-conference/ Curious ideas. The Zombie game looks basicaly like an aiming/shooting thing, but still pretty fun. The racing one looks more complex, but not sure whats going on. |
Okay, not hi-thec. But I would love to see the mars crawlers do this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RyodnisVvU |) |
Seen it before but it uber-owns.
I swear, they could make that thing for about 10euros, sale it at 30euros and it would make a fortune. |

A really awesome document on panspermia, it has some really staggering "news" about a red rain that fell on india for two months in 2001. And apparently, it was coused by organisms that had no dna in them! Alien bacteria!! Why didn't I ever hear about that? No news, nothing! EDIT: Finished watching it. Oh bugger, they did find dna in it, I wonder if it got contaminated. |
theres lots of confusing storys I read about that, and just about all the possibilitys are weird. (dust swepped up wouldnt be alive, and algea wouldnt tend to be red)
However, combine this with the bacteria found in the upper atmosphere recently :) |
Yeah, I was thinking about that all the time while watching it. That person btw. uploaded a lot of cool documentaries.

Question for all the Darkflames out there: Where can I download Augmented Reality software? Anything that uses a webcam...
|
Well, if you want to make your own AR things in flash, theres this tutorial;
http://www.gotoandlearn.com/play?id=105 FlashDevelop and all the libs are free, you dont need I played with the papervision/Flar set up before that tutorial came out and got a working tracking, but my own models never worked correctly. (despite them appearing fine in google earth and sketchup, which used the same format). If you just want stuff to play with using a webcam though, theres dozens of random adverts and other stuff. Some car company had one recently where you could drive it around your desk and it left paint trails. Youll probably find links on the Augmented Reality games facebook group. |
Thanks, but I was hoping for something simple... my little cousin got all excited about AR and asked me where to download AR software.
|
But what exactly do you mean by AR software? what do you want to do?
|
I found this and sent him. I meant software that can add virtual objects in a 3D space generated from the scene photographed by a webcam. Like for example I remember I once saw some video with someone who uses some software to make their head a duck or something.
