It's "content aware", it resizes the whole image while keeping the important details unresized.
|
Indeed.
More precisely, it looks for areas of low contrast in the image...that is, seams along which "not much happens", it then either removes these seams first if your shrinking, or dubbles these seams up more if you are enlarging. For instance, virtual resizes often removes the sky if its bland. Buildings, often remove empty walls, but leave windows. (which looks funny if you take it too extremes :p) |
Gimp seems to keep text fully readable after resize too, which straight resize doesn't.
But I assume this one is way more advanced, seeing it is a lot slower. |
Wonderfull video of world statistics;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZgL4Ybjt3w Really slams home the message of our exponetial prograss as a species. This stuff gives me goosebumps (the good kind). |
That was really scary...
That was kinda annoying to watch something with overlapping Japanese subtitles when there is a plain English version... |

sorry, wasnt aware there was a clean one.
I think one of the most important frames is this; http://forum.magicball.net/attachmen...1&d=1191944313 Technology is increaseing exponetialy. And, more importantly, its reaching more people faster then ever before. |

cool, but yes, not that practical.
Those modular blocks would be better for more use's. |
Heh, you can just imagine in the future lego bricks that do the same thing, and make your entire model for you.
|
Well, you'd build in the AR reality, and the virtual lego blocks would fill it in as you build.
(or, rather, straight after, that way you can build the inside/outside as you wished without worrying about assembling order). Of course, wouldnt be as fun as proper lego, but would be nice and practical to actualy make functional stuff. |
Interesting;
http://divergeddesigns.blogspot.com/...-odd-idea.html Totaly impractical and inferior to proper AR, but it shows nicely the "world is a sticky-note" concept. |
Theres a new wheel.. This is amazing!
http://www.bofunk.com/media/images/wheel.jpg Its not really a new wheel :P |
I dont like the colour, it will never catch on.

Space diving
This is going to be soooo insane :D. Star Trek like shields to protect space vessles from solar flares. |
Space diving is actualy quite a sensible idea.
If we get the technology to safely servive falling from terminal violocity, it will be extremely usefull. |
Space diving! I definitely want to do that.
|
That's not a bad way to die at all...
So aslong as its cheap sounds like a must-do in my lifetime. |
All Twelve Sagan Cosmos movies
Darkflame, would be cool if you could somehow have these on your "channel" couse they take a very long time to load for me during the day. |
Id happly put them on, but I think they are still in copyright.
Seeing as I got in trouble once over a 1960's movie, I'm being very carefull, I got too much to lose :p |
Oh, yeah right, forgot about that.
Anyway, 1986 is public domain now or so I heard :p. |
unfortuntely not.
Thanks to disney, it keeps being retroactively extended. Its more like 1940, stupidly. (allthough somehow King Kong, 1933 is also in copyright) 70 years was the original concept in the US, allthough it varies a lot. Sometimes things get into public domain despite all this, however. All sorts of crazy legal stuff, but I think if a company that holds rights to something goes bankrupt without another company buying rights of them, it falls into the public. blah. Personaly I think copyright laws should be simple a) The lifetime of the creator, no more. b) The copyright only applies if the material is avaiable to buy legaly in some form. I dont see anything wrong moraly with making stuff avaible if it cant even be bought anyway. Sadly, however, I have to go by the rules of Stage6/Veoh, which, in turn, do what their laywers tell them. |
About a), lots of people will get murdered :)

:sigh: I meant the movie "1986" |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pnwZmWoymeI I'm so glad it's not dead :). |
Space Elevator? You're kidding me?!
Wow  |
Space Elevator's are wonderfull, as they are not only a fantasic littaral concept, but a great metaphor for raiseing humanity to a new level of development.
Something thats really hard to achieve, but once you have done it, it makes some things orders of magnatude easier then before. (personaly I see the rise of an Augmented Reality Network a metaphorical space elivator). Science of Discworld goes into this nicely. Personaly, I dont like this "beaming power" stuff. With a counter-balance system solar panels should be enough to move it up and down. (powered from the top). Either way, I think Nasa should be investing completely in this. Mars..the Moon, they are one stop things. If you could build a space elivator...everything else becomes easy! |
Yeah, I've also been thinking of counter balance, we would have a system of to tapes next to each other, each system would be closed around 4 pulleys, two on the ground and two on the station, each system would have two elevators, one would counter balance the other when climbing. The countrer balance would be exchanged between the two tape systems on the space station. Instead installing the engine on the platform, we could minimize it's weight just by moving the elevators up and down by pulling the tapes with relative ease, thanks to the counter balance "falling" to earth.
|
Yes, a counter balance system makes the most sense, then you only have to pull the wait of what your lifting, and not the list itself.
Still, I think what we need is an "in between" development, going straight to a SE is quite a massive step. If there was an in-between idea that developed the same technologys, but returned investiment sooner, then we would stand more chance of getting there. === Interesting; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xki9SboDn4Y No clue how it works though. Some sort of semi-transparent screen I guess. |
Hey, cool, probably Oleds on foil transparent plastic.
|
Or just a normal LCD-foil
it's without color so that would be most easy won't it? |
I didnt think colour LCD's could let in that much light though, seems most likely though.
Quote:
Oleds are great because they can emit light without being backlite, but on their own they cant block light. What gets me is the demo seemed to both controll the light colour as well as blocking it off. Maybe a combination of LCDs + OLDs, or LCDs + projector/softtorchs. |
When they zoom in, you can see that it's some sort of foil on the window, you can see it's boundaries in the corners.
|
I think you missunderstood me DF
normal LCD-folies don't have colors they just can block the light I also think that there are some lamps on every side of the window because you can see that she moves the lights up and down but notfrom left to right ;) |
|
Very cool.
or, rather hot. Or, well, both at the same time :p Quote:
The leafs looked clearly green in some shots. (even when the rest of the screen was pink...probably due to lights). |
|
nice

Now that's what I call raw power.
More on project orion: http://www.nuclearspace.com/gallery_project_orion_2.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project..._propulsion%29 http://www.nuclearspace.com/images/g...1109113547.jpg |
Yes, heard about it before...seemed cool ,but a little unpractical.
--- Some robots; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tq8Yw...ief/022323.php The modular one at the end is the really cool one. Seems refined a bit since last time, allthough still needs speeding up. |
Yeah, that ship is a kind of an overkill, however, if we would ever have to mass evacuate earth, that would be the way to do it I think. Then accelerate the whole fleet to 1/10th of light speed and find a new home.
http://tides.ws/2007/11/06/the-futur...logy-its-here/ I love the Nokia arm band phone thing :D, I would definitely buy that. |
I would hope by that time we would have a better technology then letting off bombs behind us :p
Small amounts of antimater can boast fusion reactions a lot though, that would help. -- Yeah, the arm band concept is cool, allthough Id like to go further. Just littarly have a band...no screen(s). Just have a cheap, smaller arm-band phone which is voice controlled and does nothing else :p (there could be numbered buttons around the band too though) The CD/MP3 player design is cool. Simerla to how I thought Sony should have done the PSP, in fact. (rather then using those stupid UMDs). |
|
About that cell phone thing: I've never been a fan of cell phones. Some people have forgotten already, but cell phones emit dangerous radiation which can easily give you brain cancer if you're exposed to it too much. That's why I only use them when it's necessary (talking, sms'ing).
|
And it's never been prooven. Anyway, in the overwhelming radiation-filled world of the modern times, I think people become more immune to it, children to age 7 develop radiation immunity - to some extent, I guess evolution will somehow do the rest.
Besides, what can you do, other then talking or sending text msgs, that will send a signal from the phone and make it emit waves?? |
People can develop immunity to radiation? Can you back this up by a source?
