A small prediction ^_^:
The drugs of the future will be VR programs, people sick of reality will seek to escape into a world of their own, which they will never want to leave. Eventually they will die of hunger or something, if they don't get over the addiction in time. --- I must say, VR sounds tempting, it only takes a bit of imagination to realize the infinite potential. I hope I'll live to see some interesting developments in this field. |
Yes theres lots of storys sci-fi about people liveing in VR and then dieing of hunger.
But thats kinda the great thing about AR...its a safty net, you still in the real world, mearly with a virtual world on top. :) Kinda like "Reality+" Of course..there are still dangers....murder could be done by setting up a virtual bridge for someone to walk accross that dosnt really exist....or all manor of nasty "tricks". :-/ Overall though, its a world i look forward to liveing in. Even the annoying things would be fun. Imagine a giant spam messager hovering in the sky. Lift up your gyrostylus and POW! Blast it into a million pieces! (of course, it would really be blocking it from your AR "channel" and just visualy looking like it exploded, but still....) |
On the theme of Gyroscopic technology (I had to look it up cos I wasn't really sure how it would help) I found this http://www.gyration.com/intl/uk/pr-nintendo_uk.htm which is OLD NEWS but quite interesting to read and strengthens the umour that Revolution will be a real break from exisiting control methods

That's it, Mr. Hat! Gyration!

Great episode, although I hope that's not gonna be the N5 controlller. I have a delicate ass...

That thing is plain just disturbing when you see it "in action" though. |

For those interested in Augmented Reality, lots of good stuff here:
http://155.69.54.110/research_videos.htm Its comeing folks. Its comeing :) I really recomending checking out both the Pacman and the "touch space" demo. Touch-space especialy shows how cool the system is. Looks like a bizare game they have developed using the real world, augmented reality and full virtual reality all blended together. |
<useless_information>
As soon as I saw this thread having a new post, I actually jumped up and down in my chair and shouting for myself; "Yay, darkflame hi-tech update!" ^^ </useless_information> |
lol :D
Seriously though, http://155.69.54.110/MEDIA/all%20vid...ouch-space.mpg is really a sign of things to come. |
Oh yes, I saw that. Truely remarkable.
Really makes your mind wander off and imagine what is to come. |
Indeed.
And yet...most people still dont know, understand, or care. Funny really. Pieces of technology all falling into place. More rapidly then even the developers of the technology realise. (eg, the guy that was in charge of the group that made that stuff was interviewed and said. "of course, augmented reality couldnt be done for less then $10,000 at the moment..too expensive for the average person"). He dosnt know the Gizmondo has AR games and its just £130-200 :p |

They stupid geeky voice put me off of it. Alot. But it seems really really rad.

Popular Mechanics 2025 issue. What life will be like in 2025.
They talk about military technology, which is funny I think. If they've got it in their magazine, you know stuff twice as good is in development or in the planning stages, if not even in use. |

Oh, he said that? That's funny, even I knew about the Gizmondo AR games. They should try to be more updated when it comes to their field. ^^ My oh my. I'm considering to buy a Gizmondo because of all this talk about AR games, but it's turning me off that the Gizmondo doesn't have a touchscren. I can't live without touchscreens at handhelds :O |
hehe :D
Well, my guese is; 2010 ~ Augmented reality common place amongst some game devices (first signs are today: The Gizmondo) 2015 ~ AR used primarly in all main games systems 2020 ~ AR developed small, portable, and for high-end users. (Like a top of the range pc). Basic functions only, no generic virtual network. 2050 ~ Full AR virtual world ontop of the existing one. AR is essiential as a car. Devices sold cheaply. 2060 ~ Internet evolves into a human hive-mind like device. Allowing the mass human inteligence to become an exteligence. Anyone, anytime, can submit or solve fractions of problems...combined it becomes almost a "inventing machine". 2075 ~ "gist" invented: Think of like T2-style liquid metal, only made from small tiny spheres and dust like. Rearranges into any shape required. Combined with the AR network, this substance can make virtual objects seem solid. And that, folks, is the future. |
Remember these flying cars from The Longest Journey?
Looks like we're gonna have hover jetpacks and flying cars in the current lifetime!! :D http://www.moller.com/skycar/ |

I want to be very old! But why's it called gist? |
Dunno, once read a sci-fi story were they called it that.
Lots of people have had the same idea though. Recently New Scientist had an issue about theorys discribeing how it would be made. Its all not just theorticaly possible, but praticaly possible too. Currently though, each partical of the stuff is about 10cm's big :D Not exactly the idle size. We need to shrink that to, like, 1mm then we would have something usefull. (oh, and a way to make billions of the stuff fairly easily) |

There's only one hi-tech thing I'm waiting for: V fucking R.
Just plug the thing to your brain, and then every imaginable thing will be possible. You also will be able to meet people online with it, and it will seem real-life. ...I want to live there. INVENT IT GOD DAMMIT!! |
