Official LBA1 remake on the way (and an interview with the team)

GOG.com just realeased their interview with the team who created LBA. In that interview they seem to reveal an official LBA1 remake and the possibility of an LBA3 if it is successful!

Quote:

First, as we have such honorable guests, please let us know, if you can reveal, on what projects are you currently working on?

We are working on the remake of LBA1 :-) Individually, we are involved in other projects we can’t tell. Fred just released a small puzzle game he did himself: “bOxOn”, you can find it on his website ludoid.fr.
Here is the full interview

I think this is great news and am really looking forward to seeing how the remake goes and how true it is to the original! :D

Archas 2011-12-29 17:09

Thank you ;)

Why traducing the interview in french please ?

(Moved to news forum and edited the post a bit to be more news-post-like)

A remake of LBA1 would be awesome. I hope they stick to the areas with "void" rather than trying to fill in the blanks. Not knowing what's in the next scene really adds to the mystery of the world.

ChaosFish 2011-12-29 18:25

Wow, an LBA1 remake!! OFFICIALLY!!

GOMGOGMZOMGOMG OMZ OMGZ This is the first official LBA announcement from the development team since... 1997? This is the single greatest news item since the MBN was born.

Wow, I wonder how it will look like!! Will they use the PhysX engine? OMG again.

Necdilzor 2011-12-29 18:34

Read it recently. Awesome stuff! :D

The long and bumpy road to LBA3 is still being walked on.

Homeless 2011-12-29 19:05

MY GOSH, this is interesting stuff. Damn well interesting!

ChaosFish 2011-12-29 19:13

Now that Homeless has posted this thread is even more exciting! GOODNESS ME!

Reek 2011-12-29 21:46

this is freaking awesome.

Renesans 2011-12-29 23:41

Awesome... this means the remake project is serious enough to be announced to the public. This means SOMETHING. :D

ChaosFish 2011-12-30 00:08

That means EVERYTHING!

MatheusMK3 2011-12-30 01:22

Well, this just made my school vacations amazing... :D

I'm so excited with the remake and with the possibility of LBA3... OMGOMGOMGOMG

lucas_irineu 2011-12-30 10:01

Oh mannnnnnnnn

I'm fangasming pretty damn hard over here.

Axx 2011-12-30 11:09

Woot:)! I wonder what remake here entails. I sort of get the impression its simply an adaptation of the graphics to better suit modern platforms, though who knows.

Also, is this only LBA1?

Are you thinking about reviving the series with the third part of the game? Is it at all possible? If that would be the case, how do you see it?

A:We obviously have a lot of ideas for a third part, our best fans already know some of them, but before telling you more we need to test some of them with the remake. Games are different nowadays and we don’t want to be stuck in 90’s.
"To test new ideas with the remake" suggests it won't be the same. Still, it'll be a remake. Interesting...

ras maxim 2011-12-30 13:17

It's one of the best news in my life. On what platforms the remake will be available?

Bot13 2011-12-30 14:26

I hope it isn't just a port with barely anything changed. Wait.. we don't even know the platform they're developing for right?
Hopefully they'll turn it into 3D, that would ask for everything to be revised :)

Streg 2011-12-30 15:22

Holy rose-marie the cow! I hope this remake things turns into reality! And this interview will give more views to boxon too!

Archas 2011-12-30 19:38

It's amazing

but i want this interview in french . thx ;)

proto-pack 2011-12-30 23:48

This is such good news, I'm speechless. I know LBA3 isn't definite yet but this is by sure the best news the MBN has received since forever. This probably wouldn't have happened without such a great community still playing & enjoying the games. I'm gonna stop now before I break into tears. :)

Id rather have it left as isometrix - the isometrix has aged well - still looks great today imho.
Higher res sprites and improved 3D and lighting could alone make it look fantastic.

I'm with you. It'll somehow give a feeling of nostalgia and at the same time a fresh new feel. Improved Midi's too? :P

Lawrence 2011-12-31 13:36

DO WANT.
2012, end of the world? Please, rebirth of LBA is more like it.

darthsylly 2011-12-31 16:30

This is great news!! Fingers crossed it gets completed and not sidelined. Time to fire up my recent GOG downloads :)
