Where does all Hi-Tech goes to when it becomes Old-Tech?

I've seen these pics today and it really saddened me.
While progress for new products is incessant, new solutions to our techno garbage is not.

:o

That's a deathtrap! Those people have no additional breathing apparatus!

What If it rotates like 40, 50 degrees won't all the air start coming out of it??

Yes, but the air is constantly pumped back in. So you'd have to be at a odd angle for awhile to be in danger.
Remember the thing is very heavy at the base, so it should be quite hard to tilt, let alone stay tilted.

Insanely pretty aurora footage:

This is awesome. By 2020 we might have a single stage to orbit spaceplane!
Thats right out of sci-fi that is!

Polaris 2013-07-20 01:51

Isn't that kind of a spaceship ? What's the difference ?

Jasiek 2013-07-20 10:53

Polaris there never was a successful single stage to orbit vehicle.

Usually rockets (including the space shuttle) have different stages to account for different atmosphere composition on varying heights. Usually when one stage has used it's fuel it is dumped and either burns up in the atmosphere or has to be retrieved later on.

The skylon will not drop any of it's parts, and will just speed off a runway and off into space - thanks to it's apparently revolutionary engine design.

SpaceGuitarist 2013-07-21 00:55

Neat. No more $ waste on fuel and discardable parts.

Darkflame 2013-07-21 01:31

Indeed.
While I dont think its a complete solution - to lower costs further for getting building materials into orbit we really should use cannons - its probably the cheapest we can do for humans.

Well, cheapest short of a full or halfway space elevator.

Polaris 2013-07-22 00:43

Oh, I get it now... That's truly a huge improvement.

Darkflame 2013-09-07 01:31

This is amazing....a guy tests relativities time dilation predictions in his car by taking a road trip:

So cool what amateurs can do these days.
