Music in the background

hey why dont we have LBA music playing on the MBN? Lots of other sites have their own music. And we could have an option to mute it or not. Couldn't that be easily done?

LBAWinOwns 2008-11-09 03:35

Wouldn't it be easier and less resource consuming if you had it playing in your media player :p ?

Well the idea just seems strange, please not that MBN has uploaded all LBA soundtracks

morshem 2008-11-09 05:08

Background music is like the rudest thing possible in web sites. I usually close such sites immediately.

RosaMarietheCow 2008-11-09 05:19

rude? how is it rude? its inviting, it speaks out and says to you, hey come look into me more, im a worthwhile site, you can tell because my people who made me took the time to give me some background music andmake me look presentable and, ermm, warm.

Momiji 2008-11-09 07:16

I always feel like those websites are forcing you to use your download on their music...
(And most of the time I already have other music going on in my media player.)
You're right, it is inviting. But sometimes it feels inconvenient.

(Hi again everyone; haven't posted in a while.)

Fireball 2008-11-09 07:18

Sorry, but I'm with morshem on this one. Background music is usually just annoying and takes up resources. I'm usually already listening to music when I browse the web, so if a website starts playing music, I usually won't want to listen to it, and will immediately start looking for a way to turn it off. I can't stand sites that automatically play music in the background and don't have an easy-to-find "off" button.

RosaMarietheCow 2008-11-09 07:58

well we could have a mute music button and it will be easy to find!
what does Elmuerte think?

bunnyrabbot02 2008-11-09 11:47

I agree, let's have mute music!

Which LBA theme should be used?

Kobold 2008-11-09 11:59

I don't think it's a good idea to have it automatically playing. The only thing that could work is that you have to turn it on before it plays.

elmuerte 2008-11-09 17:10

I don't like websites with music

Dino-Fly 2008-11-09 18:32

I have to agree with morshem.

Wait...
Morshem?!?
...
MORSHEM!:p
The return of the mega-poster(I don't it though.)!

Kobold 2008-11-09 18:33

Morshem posts now and then when he feels like it, but he's not really active.

That's a terrible idea, for that you're banished to the desert.

Background music is THAT rude, that it made morshem post :D

Streg 2008-11-09 22:30

right now I've got iTunes on, and if this site was playing music by itself, I'd have closed it already.
(faster than adjusting firefox's volume)

Kitarii 2008-11-10 00:06

It's a nice idea but like most people said, it's common to already have music playing.
So it's inconvenient and probably annoying, especially if you can't work out how to turn it off.

SebZ 2008-11-10 00:14

Background music is the biggest no-no when making a website.
It usually subtracts from the person being pulled into the website.

Go onto MySpace. Go to a random persons profile. Now open multiple profiles in tabs.
You have about 7 tabs open, yeah? Does it hurt listening to all that music? Do you notice yourself either opening each tab to stop the music or closing them?

Your example is a little extreme, and if you're a member of myspace you can disable the music player to start automatically, so that's not really a big issue (unless they've embeded their own player which is just retarded).

SebZ 2008-11-10 00:31

Well I'm trying to get my point across..

Yeah, I'm a member, but I can't stop other people's music from starting to play, only mine.

And, yeah. What's with the embedded music players? It annoys me.

You can't? I think it's in account settings somewhere.

Yeah, that's to set your own one. Not other people's, unfortunately.

Must have happened while El was updating the cage to version 3.7(Is that the new version of Vbulletin?)

SebZ 2008-11-10 13:53

Yes, 3.7 is the latest version.

No, you can trust the guards.
I've been a good boy and became happy again so they let me out.
