Personal thoughts on this;

In industry, you cant just model something just like that. Everything needs to be modelled, textured, lighted etc... for a particular shot.

For example, if you had a close up shot, i would personally recomend using ZBrush to modell the landscape and such to add an immence amount of detail, then you have to take into account the rendering power and time constraints, as zbrush simply exports displacment maps you can then convert to .map files with mental ray applies it as a displacment map at render time.

When my exams are over, i might make a demonstration of what i mean. For the moment i have to finish my 2d game engine project
