I bought an EA Classic version here in Australia that cost me AUD$30 about 4 years ago.

I have never been able to get the CD music playing even if i just put it a standard CD player - after much searching with out luck I am now of the belief that my version does not have music on it.

Can any one confirm that a musicless version was released.

On my old PC I had to copy all of the .VOC files to my hard drive before playing the game if I wanted the spoken voice to work (otherwise it would lock up as soon as it started loading one of the files).

I can't get sound effects working on my new PC but I'm not giving up yet.

All versions of LBA and Relentless are 100% the same when you look at the game, there might be some other stuff on the classic cd's but the game is 100% the same.

I have a original LBA1 CD, the 1st EA classic release and the 2nd EA classic release are identicat except the booklet and the box.

But mine doesn't have any music on the CD.

When I exit the game it comes up saying LBA \ Relentless 17th October 1994 11:43.

Or something to that effect.

yeah that's correct.. that's the build number...
to check if you have cd music place the cd in a audio player (don't play the 1st track)

BOO HOO HOO

I have tried this many times and even in a standard CD player and there is only 1 track.

They must have forgotten to burn the music to the CD.

I'm tempted to order one form the net, but with shipping and the poor exchange rate on the Australia dollar it will probably end up costing me AUD$60+ which is the price you can get some new games for these days (almost).

I don't know that it's worth it just for the music.

well the music is REALLY great in lba1, but i don't think that's worth it getting another one in the price you said just for it

If you've got a cd-burner and a program that can create mixed-mode cd's (like Nero) someone could upload the music (MP3) so you could burn a working LBA cd with music.

Yep, select Mixed Mode in Nero, like I said in my nearly 3 years old post above
In Mixed Mode you can select a data track and several audio tracks. Align them respectively and burn away.

SO I put the data track first ?

P.S. Way back when, Twinsen Tribune I think, my first son was just born. Now my second son is born too. So they are 4.5 years old and 7 weeks old.

The eldest likes playing Relentless because he likes the fighting ie aggressive mode.

Thumbs Up

Actually, also a floppy disk version of L.B.A./Relentless exists. I have a copy of its 1995 version (when I quit, it says 1994-1995 Adeline), and there is a difference in the game. It's in the Proxima Island museum. In the part, locked with the red card, there are some barrels in this version, which make this thing a bit harder. And, it doesn't have voices, nor the videos. Instead, it has the file FLA_GIF.HQR, which contains the slideshows, that replace videos. I once had the 1994 version, and it had the FLA_PCX.HQR file instead. The files different: LBA_GRI.HQR, RESS.HQR, and SPRITES.HQR.
FLA_GIF: GIF images (approx. 1.7 M), FLA_PCX: PCX images (approx. 1.6 M).
And, it seems to be an official release, since the file README.TXT is written by Adeline, the files have an unique date, and the file README.TXT states that it's a floppy version ("Install the game from floppy" instead of "Install the game from the CD", in the DOS problems section). This version can be found on EmuArena.it (an abandonware collection site).

So I ddi the mix mode thing but the CD is not recognised as been the LBA CD.

I think that the original must have some sort of copy protection on it or a file that verifies it as being genuine.

The CD is not copy-protected. I made a disk image of it, and I use it for the gameplay, and it always works. I never tried to burn that disk image on a CD, however.
