Some revelant top voted youtube comments:

Obama and the US don't care about palestinians or Israeli's. Obama cares about the corporations that line his pockets and want oil from the region. Everytime the US gets involved in something they shouldn't - they make the problem worse, poor people die, and rich people get more rich. Obama's the exact same as Bush - just black and a good talker. The corporations are pulling the strings on these puppets.

The Palestinians have been suffering for more than 60 years now ... its time for the world to give them some peace .... israelis suffered from racism in Europe, so they tried to solve the problem of jews facing racism with a more racist way ... Palestinians must have their own country, its enough ... what Palestinians face everyday is a shame for the modern world.

Sadly I don't think there's any easy answer to the problem.
Some things might help, but its too ingrained and multi-facceted for any easy fix.

I basically think, like any conflict, the best way to reduce fighting or hatred is to raise standards of living. There will always been disarrangement's over religion, political beliefs, land and simple racism. You can never remove that completely from any society.
But when people have a good home, decent standards of living, the chance for a family - they are a lot less likely to start following people that tell them violence is the answer.

I'm sure Axx will have a more precise elevation....

and..
-sigh- at you tube comments.
Obamas been trying like mad to get big companys and rich individuals to pay more - its the republicans that have been stopping him at every term- even rejecting closeing tax loopholes that allow the biggest US corps to pay nearly nothing was rejected....thats what the whole "raising the debt ceiling" crap was about over the last half year. It was the central part of the conflict that made it last so long. One side thought massive companies and individuals being as rich as possible (thus no/little tax) was good for the encomy/jobs, the other side thought their tax breaks didnt help anyone and just increased the national debt. -sigh-
Statements like that (aside from having nothing whatsoever to do with the topic) show the sheer ignorance in US politics so it doesn't bode well for understanding anything else.
Thats not to say obama doesn't have many many problems, but they are all quite different to Bush. (who, coincidentally, raised the debt ceiling 7 times without cutting spending at all...)

well yeah by now even most of the rightwing israelies have come to terms with the fact that the only solution would be a two state solution. this has been known for years, ther real problem is agreeing on borders, and how jersualem should be divided, if at all.

that said, the more pressure put on israel to give the palestinians a state, the better. the israeli government will probably never do this if left to it's own devices, sadly.

A joke, and a popular misconception. Take a look at companies with ties to the Obama administration - General Electric, a megacorporation - which paid no taxes at all last year.

Certainly offtopic, but it's hardly just the tax structure that has caused fiscal depression in the U.S. It's also been over two decades of relentless and irresponsible fiscal policy.

I'm sorry to say that unless a staggering amount of people push for it, petitions generally don't pan out for something with this much importance. Also, the financial multiplier for the people on top gives them more power than thousands of signatures.

Yes, I was precisely awaiting the Israelis of the forum to give their opinion on this (thanks for your share, anakin). Personally I'm very ignorant on middle east issues, so... fishos, mr.shemesh, axx, c'mon, I want you guys clearing this up!
