you're missing the point, the whole attitude of counting the strong female characters in a video game to see if the number meets some bullshit made up quota is the very thing we're complaining about.

it's not "good" that LBA has goddesses, it's not "bad" either. it's a morally-neutral fact. you only think it's good because you're projecting real-world politics on a video game, and i don't really understand why.

In more positive news on the game, I really like the new take on the music in this trailer for the remake...(Not that there's much to see of the gameplay.) Seems fresh and realistic and a bit denser but keeps the strong melodic instinct and brightness/clarity of the originals.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2...1U3waY7UOpkrX4

I will buy these, just as I did all re-releases of the game since the originals.

It's cool that you and CiB agree, SGK. :-)

If that level of quality is kept up for the music, it'll be worth playing just to listen to a glorious new take on the themes we love!

We don't have much in terms of music, but they won't make it worse than the symphonic suite

...

Oh wait...

It is the symphonic suite

Let's just hope it works better for a background music than a standard piece

Oh my days, I was just thinking "how great that it's an improvement the symphonic suite"...(which I hadn't listened to in ages.) A little voice inside from another part of my conciousness answered saying, "it actually IS from the symphonic suite" (which got ignored.)

Ends up it was indeed (a particularly great 30 seconds) from the suite.

LOOOOOOOOOL

Nice catch Polaris.

Ok, I was fooled by those 30 seconds and to my defense I was just listening on my phone's speakers.

It sure sounds so much better when singled out like that, in the middle of a song, just a short snippet. This track in particular is also one of the "good" ones.

But if they are going to use the entire symphonic suite, then... uhg. Not so great as I was imagining the rest to be.

I was in the process of writing something along these lines, when I thought waaaiiit a minute, I should check before I end up writing things that will make me look silly in a year or so again

Imho the problem with the suite isn't the bits of the songs like that, but rather their general structure making the pieces feel like looong intros, and the complete lack of dynamism

Yeah, I mean, the LBA theme was clearly missing from the suite, we didn't get the glorious version we've all hoped for, it was clearly lacking. That music box track is a very bad excuse of an LBA theme imo.

You're both right. I was trying to be nice at the time of release, because I was just frankly glad to have something new that was LBA related (and had dreams as a kid of the music getting a full orchestral treatment)...but the suite was very disappointing to me.

This 30 seconds is probably a high point of the release, perhaps the best stretch of all.

I kinda like FT LAps, because it doesn't claim to be the original. Fun to have sort of a re-imagining of the track.
Opening for LBA wasn't too bad either imho, because it had silences ! Places where the music could breathe, and wasn't just this weird atmospheric mush !! But then again, it's my favourite track in the game, so I might not be objective.

If TLBAR is going to use the symphonic suite as its soundtrack, I wonder what they'll do with all the important tracks that were missing in it: The Rebels, Song for Gabriel, both LBA Themes etc., these songs played key moments in the games and it would be weird to just chuck in the old original versions together with the new symphonic suite.

No shit!

Polly; “this is from the suite”

Where else would it be from Its the high point of the symphonic cd

Hey, it wasn't that obvious from that 1.5 second excerpt
(it was about the music used in a previous video that they've now deleted)

Love you all
as a serious reponse in my defense though:

- I never even listened that many times to the suite; perhaps about 3 times each of the songs, at maximum; so I don't have a 'mental image' of all the songs in my head to immediately recognize that's where it came from (and honestly I'm not eager to build a mental image of this CD either as it sort of conflicts with the originals). 2.21 announced they'd be working with Vachey on remastered versions of the original soundtrack, so maybe it could've been that.

- we were all looking at the graphics in that teaser, and while it is obviously an lba2 track, to make the correlation that we are watching a teaser of lba1 with an lba2 track playing is not automatic, you don't stop and think of that at first, you are focused on the gameplay and graphics.

That I notice on the other hand, that it was "The Empire" playing.

Let me quote directly from their GoG/Steam/EpicGames store page:

Quote:
HD music: Thanks to Philippe Vachey, the OST of the original game became instantly classic. 30 years later, it deserves a HD version to re-enchant the islands of Twinsun.
By the sounds of it (pun intended), they're saying we'll get a HD version of that, which presumably isn't the Symphonic Orchestra... But then again, why would they spend the time, when they don't have that much of it anyway?

Perhaps four or five times more, perhaps not even that. How many more times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps twenty. And yet it all seems limitless." --- Paul Bowles
