Little Big Adventure support in Residual!
If you're familiar with ScummVM, you may already be aware of Residual.
"ScummVM is a program which allows you to run certain classic graphical point-and-click adventure games, provided you already have their data files. The clever part about this: ScummVM just replaces the executables shipped with the games, allowing you to play them on systems for which they were never designed!" ScummVM has been ported to many platforms including Windows, Linux, MacOSX, Wii, Gamecube, DS, Dreamcast, iPhone, PS2, and mobile phone, allowing such games as the Monkey Island series to be played on many platforms. The total amount of supported games is currently over 100. ScummVM has even been used by the game companies themselves to re-release games that have compatability problems with certain versions of Windows. Some companies (Such as Revolution Software, the creators of the Broken Sword series amongst other things) have even actively volunteered things to ScummVM developers. The problem is ScummVM is only for fully 2D adventure games. This has recently led to another project by the same team called "Residual" which was designed to support the game Grim Fandango and now is spanning out to cover new engines. This is where LBA comes in! ![]() I proposed Little Big Adventure support a while back, and since they discovered the existance of the twin engine there has been interest. The twin engine was made Yaz0r, one of the founders of the ScummVM project to support the original LBA. It appears to be a dead project, but still has reached a quite promising stage. Support would mean having an increased range of platforms available for playing LBA on in the future. There could probably even be full speed on handhelds as this will work as porting the game, it is not emulation. It was just today that the Residual Team announced that they would welcome anyone who could continue the work on the Twin-e engine or the Free in the Dark engine. (Also made by the same person to support Alone in the Dark, another game by Fred) Quote:
If you are interested the web page is here: Residual and the forum where you can show your support or even volunteer is here: Residual Forum. Thanks. Last edited by Graxer; 2009-05-27 at 02:12. |

Cool. Did you know Yaz0r (creator of TwinEngine) is one of the founders of ScummVM?

No, I didn't know that actually. I knew the guy was called Yaz0r, but not that he was actually a founder. Thanks for pointing that out.
Edit: I just altered my first post to include that. |

Well, the team who are creating the LBA prequel have good skills when it comes to working with the LBA engine. (Doesn't the prequel use the same engine as LBA, but altered?) Im not saying they should do it, but I believe they probably could.

Twin-E would be ideal because it would help alleviate some of the current roadblocks. |

Sorry about the bump, but I felt there should be an update at the MBN about what is happening with this:
http://residual.scummvm.org/viewtopic.php?t=20 It gets most interesting half way down page 2 onwards. (Once alexfont posts) Last edited by Graxer; 2009-12-23 at 22:07. |

I just give a little input in that thread since I'm currently working on the engine in my free times.

The "Help Needed!" kind of needs removed from the topic title to be honest. I would do it, but the topic is so old that I can't edit the first post.

Only a Mod can do it now.

Don't ever try editing posts yourself - it's very dangerous! Only the mods can do it.

Actually, you can't change a thread's title even in the first 24 hours. If you try that, it will only change the title of the first post, but the thread's title will stay the same.

A non-mod can change the thread title until up to 5 minutes from when they posted the thread, by double clicking on the thread's title line in the forum.
