Mario 64 DS was quite shit... uncontrollable if you ask me. Then again, I was never a big fan of the original Mario 64. Mario World and Super Marion 3 were simply great.

Mario Kart is always nice.
New Super Mario Bros is nice and a lot of fun.
Had more fun with Partners in Time.
Undercover: Dual Motives is also a great game.
Picross is nice, but quite boring after a while
Soul Bubbles is nice, but also quite repetitive, altough every world has some changes I can't play it for a long time.
Zelda is a lot of fun.

The main problem with the NDS is that 40 euros for a game is really expensive. And often the games do not offer that much fun. A shit load of NDS games rely on repetition. That is a really really bad thing when you recognize it.

The Mario64 remake is good if, and only if, you get the hang of using the thumbstrap to controll it.
Its no-where near as good as analogue controll. (but still a step up from the Dpad).

Technicaly speaking...the game itself is fantasic. Its got everything the original did plus a lot more. So if you get used to the controlls. (took me about 5-10 stars), the rest is fun. Its got some unlockable minigames which (unlike most on the DS), full well into the "arnt shit" catagory.

I also think Mario Kart on the DS is one of the best versions, despite digital controlls.
The balance was just right for me, and I loved the mission mode.

Apart from that I mostly agree with elmuerte.
Allthough personaly, I dont think DS games more repedative then games on consoles/pcs.
I find lots of games are too repedative now accross all formats.

Either repedative or short.

Others;
"Another Code" is a fantasic little DS adventure game, but only get it if its cheap, as its only 5 hours long.

Metroid Hunters is probably the DS's best action game. The controlls are almost perfect if you use the thumbstap. Turning on/off morphball mode is the only problem.
But for the most part being able to run, jump, twist in the air and do a pin-point shot against an enemy on a handheld is an amazing thing. A real demo of touchscreen done right.
The Game is also a decent length. The boss's are a let down, being mario-64 style clones of eachother rather the the highly inventive boss's seen in Prime,Echoes or Corruption.
But overall its a fun game, and with a superb online/offline multiplayer.

And, as I said, Advanced Wars Dual Strike.
Probably an aquired taste, but one of the most addictive and full-featured stratergys I have played. Long main campagn, many, many other modes of play, and shitloads of maps. (and a map editor too).

oh, and Sonic Rush is pretty decent.
Better then the series 3D efforts anyway.

As for whats coming on DS. Well, the normal mix really. Shitloads of high-quality, yet, RPG games starting with either "Final" or "Tales of".
Theres, bezirely, a series of 3 Duke Nukem games coming. As well as a port/remake of Populas. Fire Emblem new game, and a supprisingly huge amount of point and click games.
The game I am waiting for though is this one;
http://www.cubed3.com/review/586/

And, imho, this looks utterly fantasic. Especialy for Eternal Darkness fans;
http://www.cubed3.com/news/10257/
I'm praying for a western release. And will be dualy pissed if it dosnt come.

Once a generation, thats the Mario Kart way.
Still, I think its the best Mario Kart of all time, now that I think about it.
Could always have more though. (options/battle modes)

I don't think much of the levels on it if I'm honest.
I'd put Double Dash above it at least.

But it had the best levels from DoubleDash as well, thats why its hard to beat, because it rips so much from the best of the rest
DD's central concept just failed on so many levels. It wasnt a bad idea at all, but in the end if was nothing more then "you can hold two items". The players wernt distinct enough to have much tactical effect.

Really I'm not sure what more there is to do with the franchise beyond what the DS game did.
The Wii game's introduceing Bikes was hardly that much of a difference.
I think the only thing left is to make the game in modules.
Let people download track packs, or purhapes have a more expanded adventure mode.
Mission mode was a nice idea, but purhapes a DKR style adventure mode could be done.

Tactical effects?!
It's only Mario Kart!
A very childish racer, I don't think tactics were intended to be a big part.

In that case, why bother having the two swapable charecters at all?
Just a waste of effort and polygons.

But its not variation, if tactics arnt important, then its just pointlessly sticking two people in the Karts....which makes bugger all difference to the gameplay.
You might as well say "painting everything pink" would be a good because its a variation.

Indeed, also painting everything pink would also be a good for variation.

Well variation from what we have now, but having everything pink would mean no variation in colour, besides being really ugly.

I think indeed they could make the characters more distinct tactically, after all it would not at all made it less childish and cheerful, while making it a more interesting game were gamers can use the swaps to tactical advantage.

If you ask the developers why they made the two-character feature, they'll probably mention several reasons, one of them the additional tactics, another reason is probably that kids will go "OMG cool there's two we gotta force dad to pay for the game!"

Just got a NDS , and of course I got Soul Bubbles. The game is excellent, really enjoyable with creativity, but indeed suffers the fact that is too repetitive and I can't play much that 1 or 2 scenes each time.

Ah, I didn't know Yaël Barroz also helped somehow in this game. She is in the Thank list

Now I got to enter in the NDS homebrew scene and see what efforts I can take from that machine.

You mean the boater?
Moonshell is what I use for that.
Personaly, I still use a DS fat, and got my ds crack using the very old Pass-me method, and then simply used a GBAMP and a 4GB flash card. (cheap & ugly solution ).

Theres more easy, slicker, methods these days. Echomote is probably more upto date then me.

Hey Alex, would you be up for a DS version of LBA2 someday ? I'm planning to try reimplementing LBA2's engine for this console someday.

Think of it, modifying the LBAO to DS, then the ppl on ds could play it with eachother

Thanks DF, I'll try to get in contact with him. I thought the Moonshell was only an shell application but we still need a boater to make it run.
I saw a M3 DS Real - Rumble Pack Version + MicroSD 2 Gb boater which coast 45€. Its a bit expensive but its also a game price and the description of this boater seams great. I will try to investigate more and talk to Echomote.

Link, yes, I'm up to try this reimplementation as soon as I finish Prequengine and make some value progress in Prequel. But what about try to port Prequengine to DS?! Is it difficult? Maybe SDL already have a port or something.

Zerath, I think LBAO will be powerful enough to not fit DS speficications, right Link?

Well, LBAO as it is surely won't fit the DS specs, but I can keep the network layer and use the LBA2 engine reimplementation and glue them together, that wouldn't make much extra work.

As for SDL there's no DS port of it as far as I know, you have to get lower level to work on DS I think, and use the specific hardware graphic tools. A working LBA2 reimplementation wouldn't be that easy, so that's kind of a challenge. But it seems interesting to me, it it could be a way to extend the LBA fan base to DS homebrew users who don't know it already.

As for the linker, I personally use a R4 + MicroSD 2 Gb (~45€ also), and it's perfect for this price. I was suprised to see how cheap the MicroSD cards are. No need to patch the roms or anything. I just copy past the files on the card and select the games through the R4's firmware. I don't even use Moonshell (I have it for the videos, but that's all). I think the M3 is pretty much the same.

the slot 1 cards usually have a built in menu where you can run executables strait from the memory card.

I, like link, have an R4 and would certainly recommend it.

The R4s default interface isnt very nice.imo.
Moonshell is much faster if you have a mix of different things. (mp3s/ogg,nds files,video,text...all loaded from the same list that preloads to where you were on last boot-up. Like windows folders set to details really.)

Also, didnt R4 have serious problems with homebrew?
I thought stuff like ScummDS didnt work? or other stuff that didnt file-write access.
