Nintendo DS Wifi

Just a query really... How does thecloud or btopenzone know that a Nintendo DS is connecting rather than a laptop? Ie how does the DS get free access? Is it to do with the MAC address? And therefore if I spoofed a MAC on my laptop would I connect for free?

I couldn't connect to a cloud one with my DS I was in the car park though..

I'm unsure if you have to ask the owner of the pub/wherever your wifi thing is?

If you can access with your DS and not your laptop - then MAC address spoofing might do the trick but i doubt it because surely all they have to do is block all access except to WFC servers unless you pay.

(I tried DS linux too couldn't connect with that either)

But how does the Access Point know what mac adress is what? I don't think it does since there are so many.

"The Cloud" stuff "just works" from my expirence.
(london train stations normaly have 'em)

I just detected and connected, didnt have to do anything else.
I dont think spoofing will work, as I guess its only IP's going to Nintendos sever thats going to work.

Hed be able to connect and purhapes get as far as a page that says "enter your code" or such.

Normal payment methods.

Nintendo covers the cost for DS users, but I am guessing it goes ver their servers to stop people leaching on them.
