What is your true passion?

No, it's not a sexual thread. No, don't make fun of it. I'm wondering - what do people here on the MBN like to do outside of their work and school? What are your hobbies? Fixing old cars, skiing, jetsetting, television, what?

These can also be "in the mood" sort of hobbies too, if that's your hobby of the moment.

For me, I really love camping and the outdoors. Having a fire, with good friends and conversation, is a lot of fun. Also, I'm a big fan of baseball, so having a pick up game is great, and relaxing (as well as good exercise).

Thoughts?

Camping's fun.

I like some detail manual stuff, like recently I made a Shoji lamp out of wood. Or Origami stuff.

Did pretty lot of paper models too.

Woodwork (My wooden sword ).

Cycling.

I love literature and cinema. Also drinking, cooking. Seeing old friends. Dealing with old computers.

I wish I had time (and resources) to do more interesting stuff...

Do you have pictures of your wooden sword, Jasiek?

I had some, but they're crap, I'd need to make new ones.

It's a Roman Gladius.

Oh and yeah, Movies, Reading, Music, Cooking from time to time too. Theater, rummaging through antiques. I also have a few 100+ years books and textbooks.

I made a "lightsaber" out of some wooden dowels. My bro went as a Jedi for Halloween last year, so I got some glow in the dark paint, sanded them down to the proper shape, and sprayed them down with some luminous paint. Pretty nifty, except it only glows green, not red (). Made the hilt out of some grippy metallic felt.

Not very authentic, but you can *use* them like a real lightsaber and have fights with other people. The wood is much more durable than the cheap plastic ones. Then they cry and run away.

Ph34r teh dark side!

I have a PVC lightsaber, it's got a led inside, so it glows green through the PVC tube, the hilt is also made out of PVC, but wrapped with black tape, so it doesn't glow.

A friend makes them, he's got so into it, that the newer ones have a plexi-glass blade, a metal hilt, make sounds and don't need any buttons, you have a glove, and when you touch the metal hilt, they make a sound and start glowing, I only have the hilt from these, he's going to finish this one when he's back from the army.

I'll post pix later.

No passions. I wouldn't mind discarding my hobbies when I'm unable to perform them due to principles. (e.g. I would stop playing games when they are all loaded with DRM and/or ads)

My current hobbies are still:
- programming
- watching movies
- playing games
- tap dancing

Cars. I'm happiest when i'm elbow deep in an engine. I'm saving up to buy a wreck of an old car to do up. An old Standard 10 or 2CV. Or a TR6/TR7 if i save enough/have enough space to keep it.
Appart from that, reading, pubbing, tv, fanfic, gaming, riding my scooter around :/

My main hobbies are programming websites, photographing, making music, listening to alot of music (over 6000 plays on last.fm), playing the guitar and making short movies.

Other hobbies that are out there (eg, when I'm at school, or at my uncles place) are, soccer (that one's only at school), keeping quiet (yes, it's a hobby!), and... I think that's it.

Gym (powerlifting - Don't train during summers)
Taekwando (new passion) at the T.A.G.B

Cooking (Specialities include Shirin Palow (iranian sweet dish), Chicken Ablama (Syrian dish), Feta bi ruz (middle eastern) steak (medium, not too heavy on the spices) and just about anything you could concieve.

Driving (and being driven) in fast cars/or my car (Recently driven in a Pontiac GTO, 490 break horse power, you figure the rest)

I am a news junkie, and occassionally enjoy books, never have the time for them (and very rarely like an author). Books i enjoy are usually of a political/religios/fitness nature.

MUSIC/Sound systems/good headphones:- Got some Sony MDR V6 headphones, and am looking forward to buying a bass system to replace my wireless logitech surround sound

Shopping for Techie stuff:- Have a nice PC rig, love gadgets, love shopping for them more.

Hosting social events:- I will rarely visit people, I will (60% of the time) have a friend, two, or 10 at my place. I don't nightclub/house party as a rule.

Spoiler:
I liek fucking!

apart from the 'love' kind of passion, the most I enjoy are : drawing, sculpting, modeling ( everything that's art and gives form ), making video games, sports, martial arts, etc.

Um... All trainers would have completed quite a few good books. If anything, Tom Venutos initial chapters in his book "Burn the fat - Feed the muscle" about motivation/visualising your best self have really helped when ive trained

I am NOT speaking of "loose 20 pounds in 20 hours" type of books mate, or diet books at all, more fitness and powerlifting

Things I love to do:
  • Spending a whole night talking with a very close friend about nothing and everything.
  • Trying new things, making new experiments, traveling.
  • Thinking about the meaning of the existence and about the world we live in.
Things I love to do outside:
  • Spending time with mother nature, where there's no sign of human civilization, like spending the afternoon in a cold river, jumping from some rocks into the water, and just walking along and into the river, exploring caves, hiking in a forest or a mountain.
  • Skiing (as much as possible out of the tracks, on and into deep powder snow)
  • Playing invented and existing sports or games with some good friends (Slopeball, football, baseball), transforming a big cardboard into a spacecraft and spending the afternoon traveling to some far galaxies, transforming my parent's house into a big theme park for my village's children, etc.
Things I love to do inside:
  • Programming (as much as possible in low level languages, I like to know what's actually happening in the machine when I'm coding stuffs, I like inventing things, I don't really like web dev). I'm programming at school now and that's almost the only thing I do at school, and I'll have a job programming soon too, so I don't usually program in my free time now.
  • Creating things thought I know I'm not an artist, I think art is really really important, and my friends are mainly artists. I've tried to do these things: composing music (electro + rock with my ex band), drawing (imaginary landscapes and characters), 3D modeling (loads of stuff), writing (some shorts stories, my planet's encyclopedia), game designing (LBA1.5, loads of small games, and I've got many ideas of things I could create if I had more time), filming/video editing (music videos mainly). I've got a lot of artistic projects in mind, but so little free time when I'm not stressed or anything that I can make almost none of 'em.
  • Opening my mind to / Studying foreign languages (Japanese, Chinese, Korean, a bit of Portuguese, and I'm planning to study Russian and Arabian someday).
  • Watching movies, listening to music, reading books.

What a great thread!

Well, I like chess and programming, I guess I'll like low-level programming, but I don't much about it.

Recently I bought a bike, with one of those dynamo lamps, I like it pretty much, enjoying biking around at nights with the lamp on. So, I actually also like biking.
