Good, reliable, ad-free, free hosting?

Does that even exist.

I'm sure hope you guys know more than I do!

My needs:

- ftp to upload basic html, images and stuff.
- maybe css java, also very basic

Not too much to ask, right?

In other worlds, they put a message inside an asteroid to protect it while it travels through space to reach some other planet. In this case it is a gift, a guitar, rather than just a message.

I dont think it does exist

Every free solution I have seen is wysiwyg based, no ftp access and with advertising.

I think the two go together because they want the advertising - direct controll over the page makes it easier for people to hide the adverts.

I mean, you could always leave your PC on 24/7 and run your own server I guess.
Even then though you'd need a domain name routed to a static IP.

Maybe in future this will all be mute if one of the few "p2p webhosting" technologies gets of the ground. Not sure any are really ready for primetime yet though.

If you don't mind a domain like xesf.net, I can provide some access to my server.
I won't be able to give you too much control because I can't, but sFTP and ad-free is guarantee .
It's Unix based.

I can recommend NameCheap. Not free, but pretty cheap and very good service and good value for your money.
