I think epp7 will be good, but Disney is rushing too much with the rest (they want one every 2 years). So epp8,9,10 might be bad.

Haven't tried Rebels yet but certainly will - Greg Wiesman is involved and he has made all sorts of excellent shows in the past (Gargoyles!, Spectacular Spiderman, Young Justice).

Additional; While its sad and (imho) wrong that Darkhorse lost the StarWars license and thus the expanded universe died, one of the writers Marvel is using for the new Star Wars comics is Mark Waid, who has written lots of good stuff.

What do you mean the expanded universe died ? The KotOR and Jedi Knight series, the books and comics, all of this is non-canon now ?

Well they can't erase it from existence, just like Lucas can't destroy all bootleg copies of The Star Wars Christmas Special...

Also hi.

Sure, and I am sure anything popular will stay published despite no new stuff. Its too valuable not to be.

Still, the move does seem largely pointless.
Just because the extended universe takes the films as canon doesn't mean the new films have to take it as canon. They would still be free to do what they like - including start a new fresh "cinematic universe" line for books/games/comics in sycn with the films. Authors writing under lisence will take their choice, and if sales of the film universe sale more then naturally they will get more made. I'm not always a free market kinda guy, but this sort of thing it works for :P (plus old fans keen to keep the extended universe going will probably spend even more due to being scared of it dieing constantly...come on, thats evil enough for you disney :P)

---
I am just thankful Disney didnt also make Marvel reset their whole universe to be insycn with their films. I'll keep my 616 universe thanks, I cant imagine anything worse then being retold everyones origin story for the 20th time.

Somehow I think that's the one thing the fanbase wouldn't hate him erasing from existence. Its the Philips CDI Zelda of the series.
(it would be hilarious for it to get the Special Edition treatment though)

Anyone seen this;

http://darthjarjar.com/

While it is, of course, confirmation bias based - its also one of the most well thought out fan theories I have seen.
Its like crazy....but then gets a lot less crazy as it goes on.

Not bad... But I don't think Jar Jar being a force user would automatically make him Palpatine's ally, he might very well have his own goals. And I don't think it was conscious from the film maker's part, Jar Jar would've had no reason to disappear after ep III.
Still a cool theory though

Well, the idea is plans changed after Epp1's negative reception.
(which I think is true anyway, I also seem to remember reading at the time)

Anyway, by coincidence I was at a talk by someone from Industrial Light and Magic yesterday - but he said we wernt allowed to ask Star Wars 7 questions

I was referring to eps 4-5-6, no Jar-Jar in them, if was a sith with bigger status than Palpatine, would've been hard to justify his disappearance.

Ooo, what did you ask then ? What was the talk about ?

Special effects, mostly focusing on work like the last Jurassic Park.
Very interesting stuff actually - especially as people underestimate how much is still done with practical effects. Lots of stuff was hybred effects.

Also nice too see they use Augmented Reality on set to see the Dinosaurs "in context" to get the scale right. (allthough they didnt use head mounted displays - just tracked tablets being held up as windows to see the graphics though)

As for Jar Jar, well, if he wasnt in hidden he would have been removed from power too...that just proves how cunning he is! :P

I was going to ask about software used, but someone else did before me so I didn't ask anything.
Apparently ILM almost exclusively uses 3DS MAX over the last few years - mainly as they found it quite customization and scripted a lot of tools they needed.
However recently they have been switching to this one;

http://www.isotropix.com/index.php?t...&view=clarisse

Which I hadn't even heard of before.
I might check it out when I am less busy as it looks a nice bit of software and they have a free (watermarked) version.

Other then that there was a lot on how much effort went into modeling citys for various films. Even stuff that was just in the background had to be modeled fairly detailed. Location scouting and 3d scanning of large areas.
One of the Transformers movies they did the effects for had a stunningly realistic city made - only for it to be seen mostly blurred and hardly visible as the camera flew around (imho far too quickly) to actually see any of it. A real waste.

But as I said, he would have been court if he wasnt so hidden!
