[2.21] Funfact #1: The origins of Twinsen

Very cool that Gwen caught that the concept art Twinsen was the same as the statues in the Temple of Bu. I didn't notice! Now I had to check what Belgian comics there are except for Tintin and it's crazy how many I've read as a kid from such a small country (Tintin, Spirou, Smurfs, Gaston, Lucky Luke). I think Gargamel from the Smurfs is the only one with such a nose though.
What I also find very interesting, is how they (and other game designers from that era) had to get creative to work with the limited resources, like using the circles for the ponytail. I also heard that the reason many early 3D characters wear armor or tank tops is because back then it was hard to make the movements of the arm nook nicely where it meets the shoulder. I saw a commentary of Pixar on their own short films once. This is one of the first one they made :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_9Tsbduk9E They say the crowd went wild when they showed it at a CGI animation conference, it was a technical prowess at the time. The bodies having the shape of a drop is a consequence of the hack/trick they found to make such animations. They defined two half-circles, a small one open downwards, a big one open upwards, and had the computer just link the two, filling in the space (did I make sense ?). Also... Can't look at this water tap the same way now...

![]() Amazing. It feels like this statue and the one in the temple of Bû were a mistake from their part, did they forget to replace it with the new model? ![]() Or was it intentional? |

Fred: Hey Yael, could you create a concept art for our hero?
*Yael comes up with big nose Twinsen* Fred: Not quite what I had in mind, but I think this might make for a great gargoyle or ogre! Yael: Umm, thanks? ' ![]() I like how they made the best out of everything hahaha |
