Keep in mind that this is the FIRST Spore game. There WILL be sequels and expansions. Will Wright's games always start slow but improve exponentially with expansions and the like.Just look at The Sims.Yes it is overhyped but,It's meant to be for more casual gamers and for a larger fanbase.I suppose so once it sells well enough,he can then improve upon it.Remember you can start over and take different paths.I have faith it'll be all right.Patches and expansions galore is the Wright way (no pun intended). On topic again,I cannot create god ships or ANYTHING in the Creators,so I usually take other people's creations and tweak em a little.I can come up with all sorts of ideas...that turn out horribly due to the limits of the software/Complexity Meter/building points and of course my inability to make simple shapes for the bodies/buildings etc. >_<

first spore game?! so... they are going to milk it just like any other EA game... not really surprised.
anyway... screw that shit... you should release a full game, not some crappy half finished game with the promise that all the "cut features" can be bought at 75% of the retail price(each). Of course people will fork over the money for this black day of gaming.

Sim City was a great game. Sim City 2000 pretty much perfected the concept.
The Sims was a great concept, but got ruined by the quick death because of the sims 2 and the ridiculous add-on scheme.
Other than that, Will Wright hasn't accomplished much. If they stuck to Spore's original plan it would have been a great game. It would even be better if they cut the original game concept in half. But instead they slimmed down the whole concept, in a soon to be EA shovel ware franchise

Twinsen's stage will consist of chasing the umbrella thief over five exciting islands.
Zoé's stage will have you repearing the car.
Arthur's stage will be an awesome leviboard racing game.

I'm guessing he's more clever this time and notices you even when you tip-toe?

Wait... if he doesn't run away then how on earth can you chase him over 5 islands?

When you sucessfully catch him, you get a point and a clone of him appears a few meters away. You need to catch 50 thiefs to complete an island.

Why would it suck? We'll have a smart tunic designer for Twinsen (with option to attach special stickers collectible in each level), downloadable car-part content for Zoe (for a nominal fee), and 6 initial leviboard models for Arthur (buy the later released add-on for 3 more leviboard models).
It'd be awesome.

You guys are forgetting the awesome new kick-ass Twinsen's hairstyle, with a punk-like dark-yellow hair.
And yeah, the gay affair between Baldino and Bersimon, to make the game more appealing to nowadays players, that expect more drama and passion ala Metal Gear Solid.

'Ironically, due to the fans' backlash, Spore's DRM has made it one of the most pirated games in history, with an estimated 500,000 illegal downloads as of September 14, 2008.'

DRM fails. Here's why.

I dont think anything whatsoever was cut from Spore to sale later.
Like the game or not, a heck of a lot of work went into what is on sale now, I dought they had tones of free time to work on other bits and pieces only to purpose's not put them in.

Gameplay wise, maybe not, but technology wise this is still a huge accomplishment.
Procedral generation and animation technology has never been this good, nor extensively used.

I'd also welcome a sequal to Spore as I think (moreso then Sims) theres potential for a lot more to be done with the core concept.
Certainly dont want add-ons though.
If they want extra money, they can get it by in-game services. ("Your creator on a tshirt click here" or "have a model made of your creature" etc). Plenty of opertunitys for EA to squeeze money out without resorting to Sim-like add-ons.

Really?
I thought the demo was quite good for what it was. A decent stab at a creature maker, lots of stats that looked interesting, and a half-decent 3d enviroment.
I heard the full game sucked, but the principle of building your creature to overcome various tarrian problems is good.

Still think iPhone version is great. It has levels, some like the classic eating the smaller creatures around, some mazes. Currently I'm near/at the end (I think) and there's a boss which you gotta try and get other creatures around to attack to make food for yourself.

Did I mention it only costs £6?

Also, with the built in iphone camera, you can take a picture of something and use it as a texture for your creature.

I got the one for my iPod Classic. It's just 30 levels of the first stage of the PC game. Swim around, pick up food, etc.

My conclusion still stands: Spore sucks.
