I'm waiting on a Saturn (already have a copy of NiGHTS! =D), and my Dreamcast is in danger of burning out after 1500+ hours of use in 3 years. ...And don't get me STARTED on how much I still play my Genesis.

I know my list of must-play games is incomplete--I made it while I was very angry and typing furiously. ^^;;

Play Pitfall, Duckhunt, The Legend of Zelda, Metal Gear (the first), Sonic the Hedgehog (first again), Phantasy Star I, Dragon Quest I, Vectorman, Toe Jam & Earl, Earthworm Jim, Starfox (the first), and all those other games you missed while you were in the cradle.
I have played all of these games, maybe not pitfall and duckhunt, but i've played the rest.

new consoles suck.

they dont make games like they used to
Look at LBA for example. name me a game like that now? ( except maybe LEgacy of Kain which i LOVE)
Sonic has become worse imo. All Sonic's after Sonic 3D and Sonic R i think are worse than thier 2D counterparts (but yes, still great)
mmm..... never played metal gear, but i hear a GBA version is being planned? Most SNES games that are sucessful are being ported to GBA.

I never liked Sonic3D...it was farfarfarfar to easy.

But I agree with your point, Sonics transition to true-3D didnt go quite as well as Mario's.
==
Pandemona - There isnt many games like LBA period, its not to do with the games age at all.
The genra is incredably Rare.
In my view Zelda is the closet modern game series to LBA. (well, 1989-2002 so its both modern and old )
The items and pace of the game I find simerlar, allthough Zelda is slightly more action based.
--
On average I find games today too easy.
Its why I love Super Monkey Ball.
It seems so old-style, dispite being new graphics and stuff.
I mean, its completely original, and its very hard.
Two things you never really get on games these days.

Dont know, but if your looking for old-style Sonics, the GBA isnt bad.
Sonic Advanced isn't quite as good as the Megadrive ones, but it certain is the closest you get today.
Sonic Advanced 2 is out soon, and thats supposed to be much faster and more like the original.
Sega Smash pack (Golden Axe, Echo, Spinball) is also comming out that looks cool.
------
In my view the GBA is the only true home left for 2D games.
I mean, Capcom are bringing out a 2D beat-em-up on the Gamecube, and theres even a 2d(ish) conversion of Megaman played for the cube.
But these wont sale well, I garenty it.
Its a shame, but they wont.
Players want nice predictable 3D photo-real games, there not interest in anything else
On the GBA however, 2D and 3D can live side by side.

Yes, I suppose, but still, I think that those kinda games were more popular back then.

Yes I agree. Super Monkey Ball was flaming difficult once you got about 50% into "Intermediate" ( Heh, Ask CS2x how frustrated I got) Most difficult game I have at the moment is probably Devil May Cry ( PS2) on "Dante Must Die difficulty mode. its so damn hard. You have hardly any life and the enemies are near-invincible.

Yes, you can make a sort of 2D "3D" like Age of Empires by using a sort of Isometric View. I think thats gonna be used a lot on GBA. Still no luck with fixing my screen though

Hey Kat, are you new?
Heya!

Pandemona - I used to own a Sega Saturn but I still own a Dreamcast (Tis the only game console I own, the rest are my sisters.)

New consoles do 'suck'. Its because they're focusing on the more graphical elements of gameplay, not the gameplay, itself. That just 'sucks'.

Chu Chu rocket rules!

Lugias Mansion, Super Monkey Ball, Pikmen are all completely orginal games, self-contained genras even.
Look at Mario Sunshine, Animal Forest ect.
Its pretty damb clear that Nintendo is concentrating on gameplay and not graphics.
In fact, most of those games simple wouldn't have worked on older consoles, no mater how bad you made the graphics.
Nintendo use's the processing power to allow new games to run, not to increase polygon count.
(eg, Laugis Mansion needs physics and partical simulations for the very basic gameplay mechcanics. It also needs dual rendering)

Well, it wasn't easy as such...it was more that I ended up with about 10 continues...and with that many it was like impossible to lose
I kept collecting those little birds though.

You mean Golden Sun 2?
Golden Suns been out for ages, and it really really rules.
Absolutely amazing game.
The plot is kind of half-finnished, which is why everyone wants 2 so bad

True 3D comming a long way too.
Exe Vs Sever 2 has spectacular 3D graphics.
Another companys making a full conversion of Quake!
Not to mention the poly-gon based Bluerose engine.

And theres another one too AGB...something like that.
--
But the point is the graphics are to make new gameplay possible, not just to look pretty.

I like the 3D Sonics. I love how Speed Highway can give people motion sickness... The Genesis Sonic games emphasized linear speed, but the Dreamcast ones show breathtaking velocity in ALL directions. If the 3D element is USED CORRECTLY (Metal Gear Solid is a GREAT example I use often), it's astounding.

I'm not one of those gamers that automatically hate 3D games, I love trying out new concepts and spins on things! ^_^
