LBA Hub Idea Mount

While this forum is english the hub itself should be bi-lingal - linking to other lba forums too.

I know we talked about this before but I think we really need it as a community.
Theres a hell of a lot of interesting stuff we could help make people aware of too - stuff thats hidden in this forum to some extent at the moment.

I thought at one point it would be cool to present it all as an interactive map with different parts/islands leading to different sections. [/random idea]
We've said it before and we'll keep saying this again, but we never seem to move any step forward.

Design:
- Maybe interactive map (Southern Hemisphere of Twinsun? Planetary map?)
- I was thinking more closeup, like a googlemap (but maybe isometrix?).

Content: (available in different languages)
Download Hub with all the fan games
Instructions to get the game running on everything possible,
Easy to follow / how-to guidelines on LBA modding perhaps?
Proper compelling list of secrets & easter eggs in the game
Interesting facts and background info on the games,
Links to interviews online (written and videos),

Links:
To the MBN forums

Hosting:
???

Ideas
Once more established we could use;
http://moderator.appspot.com/
To field suggestions for other additions (that is, people could sugggest and vote for secrets to include on the list, or links that should be added). It would be nice if whatever we come up with can have suggestions/contributions from many many people.

Wasn't that the never-started LBA Maps project?

There was, but theres other options too now. We can use screenshot maps, or make our own maps with one of the editors then take a pic.

We could also (I think) get a highres screengrab of LBA2s citadale island. Probably need tidying up, but I think thats possible given that we can load the model.
Depends what we want really.

I was thinking something like this;

http://darkflame.co.uk//panalstreame...55&Zoom=44

Only neater/better/faster/smoother.
(that is 35MB of unoptimised images at the moment.....)

That would be nice. I think among the things needed to be done, design is the less important... It can be improved later on.

Well I think it should be easy to use, only make it fancy when it doesn't distract from the functionality. Don't make it flash either.

Sure, but I think we can have both.
Infinite Canvas designs have quite some advantages beyond just being fancy - in many ways the idea of a web "page" is a bit of a hangover from another medium that we have just gotten used too.
A few advantages imho;

a) dragging gives more screen space then having scrollbars.
b) we can have all links and information grouped logicly by location rather then in arbitary pages and subpages.
c) I think it will encourage "exploration" of content and (if done well) might draw some attention.

That said, it absolutely should run on anything, be slick, and certainly not be flash. (that example was just javascript).

Sounds good. There should definitely a button "Turn this off and give a sidemap" though.

Sure.

Thinking of content what should be the main catagories?

I mean, we have stuff to do with the official games and stuff to do with the fangames and then...umm...other stuff.

Well, yes, but then, a lot of the other stuff is links too, so I'm not sure we want a links section...or if we do its most "Misc Links" that dont fit elsewhere?

I guess our primary goals are;
a) To make it easy for people to get the original games working on their platform.
b) To give them stuff to do after they have completed the original games. (ie, fangames/projects/interesting things)

Many of those interesting things should be links.

Well, maybe call it "You might also be interested in"

In fact, having a section where we mention games like Beyond Good & Evil, Colour Cross etc is a must.

Well, when I have to name a good game in the "action adventure" genre, my first thought goes to Metroid Prime Trilogy. But that's not really like LBA at all.

you're right, it could be a great idea to built something like that.
In order to enter in a "proper" hub, we can imagine map with islands as big titles, then, entering in, some different countries, then towns. I mean making the whole part of the tree with this concept

I think we should use some kind of view on the Twinsunic islands.

That could work well - with the islands as like "catagories" and subcatagories and other stuff as things on the islands.

yes, it allow the user to "walk" easily between categories, then make a choose when he is sure he can find what he want in one of them.
