- Twinsan: There is already a global recession, what with 90% of all industry having moved to China, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, etc., and the IT work being moved to India and the like, resulting in massive unemployment in the US and the EU.
And yes, I think it's about time someone from mainland EU starts a major online service, the US has basically a monopoly on them, as all of them (Google, Twitter, Facebook, etc.) are US-based.

What are you talking about? IT is needed everywhere, it's about the only branch that doesn't die out here, or even is much affected by the recession.

Exactly. My company is avidly searching for more colleagees for me, because they recognise they're asking too much for one person.

IT is expanding and growing a lot. There is a constant need for new developers and hardware specialists, IT will certainly not be moved anywhere, anytime soon.

Well I don't want them to leave, but its in their best interests too.
For random examples;
Film studios hate leaks - now people at these spy agencies can take a copy of films as they are transmitted across the atlantic. (often done for editing purpose's etc). Its hardly a big crime - probably very tempting to see a movie before everyone else.
Big investment companies considering mergers or accusations - that information is VERY valuable to traders. Spy on a few high level company emails, buy some stocks....make lots of cash easily.
Tech companies might have valuable practical data - stuff their competitors would want.
---

In short business's need secrets to stay profitable. Even if its just short-term, that privacy is needed and has direct financial benefit for them.

Government often listens to business's more then people, so hopefully they can just kick up a fuss and not actually have to leave.

Care to back up your statement with evidence please?

And I can easily give you newspaper article after newspaper article about all industry here closing down, people losing jobs, etc. And the same for Italy too.

- Reek: Well the world's not, as the world includes those cheap countries itself, so my original statement makes no sense, I admit that.
But when it comes to the EU, the statistic does become true - most EU industry did move to China, etc.

Once again, that's not true

90% of Battler's statistics are made up.

In other worlds, they put a message inside an asteroid to protect it while it travels through space to reach some other planet. In this case it is a gift, a guitar, rather than just a message.

90% is too much, but whatever the true percentage is, it is very high anyway

90% of the time threads go offtopic.

It's cool to debate this topic cause we can see hoy deep this matter really is, now everybody seems to agree that's not just "reading your e-mails". Bad choice of title, my bad. Though it makes good comedy.

Obviously, 90% of the EU's industry isn't in china. How can i possibly back this up? you think there's an article somewhere "90% of the EU's industry is NOT in china"? Obviously there isn't, just like there's no article saying "the sky is NOT green", because nobody (aside from battler) thought so in the first place.

Polaris, sometimes you amaze me with your naivete

Also i'm confused about Battler's statement that most of IT work has moved to india. I think he thinks IT = tech support

Surely not such an article But you could have some graphs about the evolution of industry in EU and China over the past 20 years or something like that.

It's much simpler to wait for Battler to fail to produce any back up for his statement

- Reek: OK, I was wrong about IT, and the 90% is way too high, but still a lot of industry has already been lost to China, etc., and the process is continuing.
