Nederhop (Dutch hiphop)
Hardcore (the metal kind, not the house kind)
Metal (the cool underground kind, of course and classics like Iron Maiden)
Some rock (Dutch rock, mostly)

Classic Rock (THE BEATLES as always have a special spot in my collection, but I also liek: ZZ Top, The Rolling Stones, etc.) I like ALOT of classic stuff.

70's/80's Rock: KISS, Steve Miller Band, Aerosmith

No category: James Taylor- simply brilliant, I can't really say its country because his music spans so many levels, and I dislike country in general.

New Rock: Smash Mouth (should've won album of the year for "Astro Lounge" , Lifehouse, Dave Matthews Band (), Creed, Lenny Kravitz (r0x0rs), pretty much a bunch of new stuff.

Fav artists (in no category)

The Beatles
Smash Mouth
Lenny Kravitz
Dave Matthews Band
Kiss
George Harrison (Solo)
John Lennon (Solo)
The Doobie Brothers
Aerosmith
James Taylor
MPB (Música Popular Brasileira/Brazilian Popular Music), Classic Rock and Rock´n´Roll (the old ones, like Raul Seixas and even Suzi Quatro), hard rock (Led Zeppelin, etc), progressive rock (Genesis, Jethro Tull...), some pop (depends of the pop. No backstreet boys shit, but good pop-rock like Pato Fu) and some very very few rap (pratically only Public Enemy and Gabriel O Pensador) and metal/heavy rock.
BTW: Duplo-Jota, you have a good musical taste.

Well, when I DO listen to music I usually enjoy this kind of "Fantasy-Epic-Symphonic-Metal" music, not many bands do it, but some do. Like Rhapsody, Helloween, those kind of bands.

If you want an example, lately I've been relistening to this new rather strange band called "Elvenking", they do some amazing stuff... Try their song "Seasnospeech", it's kind of Fantasy-Epic-Symphonic-Irish-metal-bunch-of-dwarves-dance-around-the-fire music... It's rather incredible .

Then again, I hardly listen to music anymore lately, cause I have to spend almost everyday relistening to my own stuff, trying to fix something here and there. I'm obsessive .
It came to a situation when I literaly listen to my own stuff like 20 times a day, which makes me start hating my own music, cause it gets rather tiring already... But, oh well . All for art's sake.

Btw, is anyone here also a fan of this kind of music?

EDIT -> OH, and what the hell were you thinking putting ROCK and POP in the same category?!?!?!

Actually, bands like Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park are or have become part of the commercial Punk scene that started in the US a few years ago.

IMO, you can't corall every band with a few guitars in or a certain style of music into just the "Rock" genre. In fact, placing "Pop" along with "Rock" kinda defies the reason why some modern songwriters started writing music in the first place-to break from the status quo; (No pun intended.) Ie. the Pop Industry.

Anyway, enough of that rant.

My mate Ian's a metaller and plays base guitar for a band. He's really got me into Metal ballads like those by Hammerfall and some of the heavier Thrash Metal such as Cannibal Corpse.

Before that, I really listened to a lot of bands from the mid-late 90s British Indie Scene such as Pulp, the Manics, Space, Oasis, James, and the Bluetones. (And still do.)

Recently, I've got into indie/ grunge bands like My Vitriol and Muse who are an amalgamation of pretty much eveything, including prog.

I really like some of the best classical music as well, like Tchaikovsky, and Elgar. (Land of Hope and Glory, etc.)

Film soundtracks can be great as well. Here are a few composers of note.

John Williams ('Nuff said.)
Danny Elfman (Batman- works a lot with Burton.)
Elmer Bernstein (Ghostbusters and Zulu Dawn as well as a hundred others.)
Christopher Franke (The Babylon5 TVMs, excluding A Call to Arms because that prat Evan Chen did it.)

Regards,
Morden
