Finished Half-Life 2. Wow, most excellent. It was like a long, good FPS version of Beyond Good and Evil - minus the human-animal hybrids and plus the extra violence.

Do you mean Setlers II: 10th Anniversary Edition, or Settlers V? I've played the 10th anniversary edition, and, as a Settlers 2 fan, was quite pleased with it.

Don't we all?
I half-bought the orange box with someone else, so no, we dont "all".

I very much look forward to more Portal stuff. PC games are just getting more and more dull for me, Portal was a short but sweat breath of fresh air.

I think it worked for its shortness two, but I feel it would also live up to a full game.

The full game would have to;

a) NO, I repeat NO standard guns.
I would like a full fps game thats completely about thinking, not shooting.

b) It will, however, need more then just the portal "tool" in the game. I prepose purhapes a 3rd upgrade late in the game that lets you create a 3rd portal (cue wtf).
This third portal basicaly lets you replicate anything going into one for a short time. (eg, one goes in, one comes out each of the other ends).
This includes replicating yourself
Another possible new "tool" would be a gravity-projector, that lets you cast a gravational field onto a surface so everything would be attracted too it.

c) Expand the story. I want to know what happened to the first guy that escaped, leaving messages.
d) Keep the excelent humour
e) Get that computer back
f) Give a happy ending to the Companion Cube
g) Cake

Pfff!

It's still an rpg yeh know, if you didn't played stuff like Baldurs Gate or Planescape Torment you might not like it.
But even my cousin sank into it, and he's mostly into FPS games...

I dont know about "if you didnt play stuff like Balders Gate.." ect.

I absolutely loved BG, but find myself increaseingly bored with all rpgs.
I dont blame the games, I just think after you played them for awhile, they are get samey.
In some ways someone that hasnt played simerla it before might get more from it.

Well, no I won't agree, first of all because you need to know the genre to know what to expect form the new game, and don't get any false ideas or false hopes about it.

Secondly, stuff in this game is different, first the choices, they're not good vs bad, they're just choices and their consequences wich occur a few hours into the game. The fighting is also done differently, and although you have the active pause to use potions etc. You still fight in real time by timing your attacks.

Also, the world has a lot in common with our world, with issues like racism or terrorism.

And still, somehow this game manages to do all that, and still remain boring! Incredible.

Boring.

I'm still playing it, but I'm sure I'll uninstall it soon. No hard feelings Poland

Darkflame is right about RPG's. The fact this structure of gameplay has became a major genre is not a cool fact.

Meh, I somehow never thought it's your kind of game anyway Too much real-life issues and politics. You know, I found Fallout boring , too little happened there.

I think the problem with RPGs is they have a good core concept (Develop and personalise a avatar/abilities as you progress), but there problem is the whole genra hasnt been brave enough with expirements around this concept.

Its all about fighting, leveling, and normaly finding a specific npc you have to talk to. (rinse and repeat a hundred times).

The better RPG's (imho) include more thinking elements like puzzles (Golden Sun, Tales of Synophonia, Paper Mario, Pokemon ect). But as far as the core battles go, I find they get increaseingly dull untill you get a new "special effect", then after you have seen your new "special effect" it gets dull again till the next new one.

Id really like an RPG where the development of a charecter isnt connected to fighting at all.
(and, in fact, no repedative process will improve your stats)

Vampire Bloodlines is a good example of an RPG. It's also thinking and action, and even survival horror sometimes. A good game doesn't limit itself to a genre.

Well Fallout's zero linearity can be confusing indeed, I myself got lost from time to time on my first round, but it's really worth to go on, even if you have to use a FAQ that tells you which place to visit next (although it's more fun finding your way around on your own).

I just spent hours reading about Half-Life's universe @ Wikipedia. Wow, as far as fictional universes go, Half-Life is top notch. Best Sci-Fi I had in a while, and I'm not done reading all the articles yet.

So by now I watched Half-Life, Opposing Force and Blue Shift on video walkthrough, played Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2 Ep1, and Portal, and read some Wikipedia articles. What I have left is to play Half-Life 2 Ep2 and read some more articles. (Wikipedia ownz)
Also I should do something about Half-Life: Decay.

I started playing Opposing Force some time ago, but never really got around to finishing it... just wasn't interesting enough.

Come to think of it, HL1 was a lot less interesting than HL2 (I can hardly even remember the episodes in HL1).

After finishing D/Generation yesterday I started playing No One Lives Forever. So far I finished the first real mission and it's kind of disappointing. Feels just like another lame shooter with not much interesting going on storywise. I believe you're supposed to use stealth in the game but it's really just a run&gun game. If the next few missions will be as boring as the first I'm not sure if I'll finish it.

It gets better if I recall correctly, but some missions do suck indeed.
Still it's worth playing for the lulz and there are some memorable missions (like the one in the plane).
You can always try NOLF2 that has also a stats system and such.
