IT IS THE STORY OF MBN MEMBERS !

Especially so for people like Battler, but I think many others here, you have to see it, it is a must!

The name is Virgin Mountain (2015)

I'm not so sure, since he's an MBNer himself, I'd give him the benefit of the doubt. Also the main character isn't exactly made fun of in the film.

Sorry for the late answer SGK, but that's a really nice composition u did there ! U should definitely carry on with that kind of medium and with other LBA-related subjects (eg Jo the elf or some Baldino-ish thing )

They just were the first characters to come in my mind. Could be anyone else really.

How is the movie was about MBNers though in your analysis SG ?
Polaris, amazing how you got it all wrong? Did you even see the right movie? It's a movie that takes place in ICELAND, not Finland, by a director from ICELAND which is not the guy you named at all, as per wikipedia: "Virgin Mountain is a 2015 Icelandic drama film directed by Dagur Kári". It's not depressing, it has an overall positive outcome of things. It's a great take on the "40 year old virgin" storyline, except it's not a romantic comedy or any Hollywood gibberish like that. It depicts a clear evolution of his struggles in a realistic manner. You'll see every MBNer (including me) shares something in common with Füsy, the main character, and the many situations the movie shows. Which is why I recommended it. It's a bit strange how you failed to see any of it. Oh well. *shrugs*

Nah Not sure if you want to watch it first, so I'll put it in spoilers in case you do. Here's a list of the things in common with some mbners, which are shown in the movie:

Spoiler:

Battler - About same age as the main character | Still lives with his mom | Likes war history and knowledge of famous battles | Peculiar nerdy hobbies | Suffered bullying | Problems with socializing | Struggles when interacting with women | Still a virgin past his 30s | Is a gentleman with women and never too forward with them | Isn't really attached to getting plenty of money or showing a high "status" in society

Polaris - About same age as the main character | Struggled when interacting with women (yeah yeah he's married now, but we all remember his not so sociable virgin past not long ago, right) | Suffered bullying | Had friends try to get him to have his first time with hookers (we all remember your "red light district" thread in roofles den) and he didn't really like it | Isn't really attached to getting plenty of money or showing a high "status" in society

SGK - About same age as the main character | Struggled when interacting with women in the past | Problems with socializing | Have had people acting as if you're a creep for enjoying to play with kids just cuz you're a male | Suffered mild bullying | Isn't really attached to getting plenty of money or showing a high "status" in society

Etc...

The above is based on things people have shared here publicly, I cannot talk of other members who shared things privately with me, but all in all, for each person you'll see some correlation. So, no, definitely not meant as an insult.

Wut ? I know it is an Icelandic movie, they part of Scandinavia when talked about in broad term, as is Finland. I just made a parallel between two countries and movies, that's all.
I would somewhat disagree with the realist part though. While what happens isn't comedic or absurd, the main character, Füsy is meant imho as a canvas. Despite being the main character and being on-screen for the whole film, he barely ever has an emotional response to anything. As such, the net of meaning the director casts over him is a bit too bast for me.

About more spoilery things

You have a weird understanding of that, those weren't friends, those were bullies making fun of him in every scene...
Also in my case, it was my own choice, even though some here recommended it years prior

I got that, but by doing so, you cast a bad light unto a movie that had nothing to do with those others you've paralleled with.

Ok, that's up for personal interpretation, I disagree, but fine.

Spoiler:
They were bullying him at first, yes, but then they tried to be friends with him and make up for it and win his friendship again - didn't you watch the movie and notice that, after Füsy fixed the guy's car?

And yeah I don't meant to say the situations are EXACTLY IDENTICAL to anyone's here, but it meddles with the same kind of ingredients/themes/subjects/whatever.

Jesus.

For a piece of art to be depressing isn't a bad thing... It's a strong feeling that's not easy to play with.
By stating that Virgin Mountain is a depressing movie, I was in no way judging its quality, just as Aki Kaurismäki's films are pretty good.

That's alright, but it did make you and Neko feel like I was recommending this movie to MBNers as an insult/joke instead of what it actually is: a touching movie that adresses subjects in common with many of us here.

I specifically told Neko that I didn't think it was an insult... Plus he reacted that way after seeing your original post about it...

It is a pretty touching film...

Even though I didn't like Virgin Mountain as much as you did, I like watching films. I'm pretty certain that I wouldn't have ever known about this one were it not for you, so thanks for recommending it
