Why does "new Twinsen" have Raziel's hands?

So, we've all seen that before-and-after comparison of the new model for Twinsen, where apparently they've listened to our feedback somehow and gave him back his original skin tone . In case you haven't, here it is:



But while looking at it, a completely off-topic aspect struck me: Twinsen's hands went from having 4 fingers with no wraps:



to looking like a 1:1 replica of Raziel's claws from the Legacy of Kain series:





You can clearly see how he went from 4 fingers to 3, not to mention getting those very weird wraps which he never had before. And again, this 2-in-1 combo resembles strikingly to how Raziel's vampiric claws look, especially when having his 3 fingers wrapped in the exact same way. What's going on here?!

Haha. I know fingerless gloves only from the gym. Maybe that's a teaser for new acrobatic abilities coming in the reboot where he needs more grip? I'd certainly appreciate that. I sadly haven't had a chance to play Legacy of Kain yet.

Those are not just fingerless gloves, they're really wraps (color and length going high up on the forearm are a giveaway) AND he's also missing one finger, not to mention that his "new" 3 fingers no longer look humanoid-like, they're these long, thick, triangular-shaped claw-like things resembling Raziel from my pictures above, OR Danny DeVito's penguin hands from Batman Returns (1992):

If you look close enough, he still has 4 fingers. And they're not that pointy. It's a style. They likely tried to imitate the concept art, which was likely based on this kind of figure drawing form:

I think you could also imitate this "evil subliminal" art style if you do a low-pass filter on an existing hand, which makes thin color changes (like of two fingers close together with a small line of shadow in between) disappear. I can create an example of that after work (though I can well imagine that Quetch just wanted to make fun of how the hands are drawn).

@bloodhound: I was making fun, but also I was genuinely intrigued, like why did they do that?

@Polaris: if 4 fingers are hard, but 3 are somehow easier, then I'd prefer they'd go back to the small ball-like look from the old games, although Lightwing says it's probably an optical illusion and there are indeed 4 fingers there, just very hard to see. Could be... I think the pinky and ring fingers merge in and out due to that cell shade effect, making it very hard to distinguish. I think those wraps should definitely go and his fingers should be much smaller/chubbier, not as long as 3/4 of his forearm, giving his that alien-ish look

The wraps reminded me a bit of Paulo's tattooed arms, maybe that's the style he likes. But for Twinsen at least it of course makes sense to go for a style with mass appeal.

A simplification only done in the West, so it's questionable whether it really does, becasue they have no problem animating five fingers over in Japan.
