3D File Formats

What file format should I upload my objects to the Temple of Bu in? Truespace 4 exports to: *.cob; *.3ds; *.asc; *.x; *.dxf. Here are the problems:

*.cob = Mainly Caligari systems only - not v compat
*.3ds = Seems to frequently go wrong (esp w/ lampposts) maybe bad export filter
*.asc = ascii version of the above - never tried
*.x = Direct X............nuff said
*.dxf = good compat and quality......but MASSIVE!!!!

PS Does anyone have screenshots of the radio equipt on the Hamalayi, I was going to start modelling that

Preferably .3ds, since it's the most compatible.

Concerning the radio: I'll try to make them today/tomorrow.

No, there is problems with the export.
I've confirmed that.

the_angry_ - What version of Truespace are you using?
Maybe its solved.

Dxf isn't that bad when zipped, but only contains the mesh info.

It's TS 4.3 but there still seems to be a problem. The other thing about dxf is I will have to save each texture group seperately (resumably) unless someone knows a way around this. Oh well, I've reposted, so maybe C will tell me if this one is OK (3d Flower Pots)

Dxf (autocad) is a really bad format for anything other then the mesh.
But it is the most compatable.
--
Shame, I use TS4 as well.
I don't remember having problems with max compatability before, but I rarely use both together.
(A few times I have use TS4's excelent Polygon editing interface for MAx stuff)

the_angry, I wasn't really sure what you meant with 'radio'. So I think you meant the radar.
If that wasn't what you meant, the only thing I could find was the 'computer like thingie'.

Anyway, the radar 2 different shots, because you can see the shape of both the 'circles'.
Here it is (Just 'save target as'):

EDIT: I can send you the full picture, too. If you want.

Thanks for the screenshots, that's great. Does anyone know a good polygon reducing engine? Otherwise I shall have to remodel my flowerpot foliage.

I've tried a tool called polygonisation', and I've had to stop 3dsmax 15 mn later with cntrl+alt+suppr cause it didn't want to stop thinking...those flowers are mortal...

3ds is a very old format, and contains almost nothing it seems.
Other formats are not compatables...

The best would be we all use 3ds max : it's at least as good than truespace, and like that Darkflame wopuldn't have problems to fusion all our creations : *.max format is a little bigger, but contains lots of infos (hierarchy, shaders...)

If you cant have 3ds max, you can try gmax : i've heard it was a free lite version of 3ds max... Or try to take 3ds max...else we will still have lots of problems ...
*************
WARNING : I got the impression that zip files are a little too much corrupted on multimania's FTP (3 wrong zip packs in 2 days)
We should try not to zip them, I would make it myself after verification...

3DS Max has excelent reduction tools.
Which I'll use.
I don't mind objects having large numbers of polygons.

I got the solution : 3d converters :

http://www.us.righthemisphere.com/pr...oads/index.htm

it's a shareware but there are lots of other programs like that
on the web.

I've converted the_angry files and they are OK !

So now all, upload your files non-zipped in the original format (.cob or .max) and I convert them in full integrity.
LOL

Theres lods of converters, but they never maintian all the infomation.
The_angry's *.3DS files had something wrong with them (they export was wrong-I tried loading them in Truespace 4 and 3ds Max4)

The Computer is already modelled so don't bother with that.

PS. All models I make are originally in C4D format, but I export to 3DS so that other ppl can load them. Also I cant export models with UV texture maps, or the UV Coords dont translate correctly, so all textures are applied using flat/spherical/cylindrical maps etc..

the one I've found is really good, the models are as on the_angry's screenshots....there are even lights ...
no problem...

By converting from .cob to .3ds like that I loose almost no info, in all case vertex are well where they must be, polygons arent strange...
It's enough for me

As long as the mesh is ok, then everything is fine.
I'm not worried about havn't to retexture stuff, as long as you supply the textures (if they are a bitmap of somesort)

no, its extreamly accurate.
Easily good enough for the project. (although I'll add a bit of bump to the textures)

Actually it has no textures

Thats why i didnt make the big 'F' on it. All detail is modelled.

Add the F and the 3 horizontal stripes as you need to.

I've all received Miam !

The problem for the movie will be characters I think...
Good modelers should concentrate on clones, skeletons ect...
