You can play LBA on the GP2X now

http://bjimba.blogspot.com/2006/02/dosbox-for-gp2x.html
Someone opened a thread about it once. Now you can use DOSBox on the GP2X, and run LBA on DOSBox.

BTW, I have no idea wtf a "GP2X" is.

GP2x?

GamePocket2000?
(Without looking at any link yet)
If it's that I heard of it, yes.

edit: Nope. Gamepark 2000. Weird.

the GP2X is the successor to the GP32, it's a handheld specifically targeted at the homebrew market. It can play videos, music and games, it emulates older consoles amazingly. I was going to get one because I loved the GP32 but I got a DS instead. LBA will no doubt run stupidly slow on it though.

I'm ordering one tomorrow, I'll try out the DosBox LBA but DosBox runs slow on my computer (which can run Half Life 2 with all settings on max) so I'm not expecting much.

I had a GP32 once, it's great but for me it failed miserably due to the lack of community support :/

It will, by not doubt, run incredibly slow. But I might give it a try when my unit arrives. It would be so incredibly to be able to play LBA on-the-go.

The TwinEngine is written using the SDL library, which the GP2x also provides an SDK for.

Now all I need is £130 to buy one !

However, XGP isn't open-source. There'll probably be somekind of SDK as with the GP32, but nothing like the GP2x.

isnt open source O_O

They must be out of their minds if they think they will get any support for it whatsoever.

It's made by a different company, after the GP32 Gamepark split in 2; Gamepark Holdings and Gamepark. Gamepark Holdings went on to build a true successor to the GP32 (the GP2X) whereas Gamepark wanted to make something to compete with the PSP and the DS (the XGP), it isn't opensource.

XGP will be more powerful for 3D graphics, but the community behind the GP2x make it a much more interesting platform.

GP2x all the way !

Yes, hypothetically, if people actually release games for it

I mean, at least other long-shot handhelds tried to have a niché ( Gizmondo = Augmented Reality + GPS , NGage = Mobile Phone).

XGP strikes me as an invention of gread over common sense.

Yeah, I don't think it'll succeed, but it is more powerful... no hypothetically about it.

Gizmodo is bankrupt now anyway .

I meant it was hypthetical that the people would actualy release games for it to use the power.

Yes, its a real shame, the enginering/development side of the company was great.
The Augmented Reality functions, the gyroscopic camera system ect....unique saleing points and in some ways real breakthroughs.

However, the people running the company, seem to be simply criminals (seriously)

Yes, Darkflame, I read about that criminal business too. It sounded really odd ^^

Anyway, I'm almost certain that the GP2x will be much more successfull. But actually, the GP32 wasn't open-source either, it just had an open SDK for everyone to use.. and it seems like it was possible to do lots of things with it.
What if XGP also has an versatile and quite open SDK?

Oh well, nothing beats open-source though, ever.

(My apologies to all the wierd people who dont like old threads revived (whys that anyway? I love old threads, theyre so... nostalgic... most of the time))

LBA does NOT work for the GP2X, i know this because i bought a gp2x and spent hours trying to emulate it on the gp2x using a dodgy version of dosbox for the gp2x. Well, it would be amazing. Since GP2X uses Linux, i think i may try to see if porting it using wine is possible. Shame, would have loved to play it on the gp2x (which in theory is more than powerfull enough to play lba, it has dualprocessors, with around 200-260mhz per core)

I'll try getting this to work. If I can get it working, I'll post some pictures or a video (if I can get my video camera to work).

Waaayyyy too slow to be playable. Might run better with a bit of overclocking.
