How is Twinsun governed ?

I finished LBA 1 yesterday night, and a question came to me : who leads Twinsun ?

There are a lot of Islands on Twinsun, the 2 hemispheres are delimited by moutains chain. But which one of these islands is the "first" one ? The one where may live, I dunno, Twinsun's President (Twinsen for president !!) or a governement...

Of course, when the planet was lead by Dr FunFrock, this island was certainly Principal Island... But FunFrock isn't there anymore, so... where is the government (if there's any government... ^^) ??

I think they don't have a government or any leaders at all. It's probably a sort of tribal society, where there is no leader, everyone helps each other, but they have much respect for their elders and sometimes go to them for advice. Like that old man on the hacienda, or the astronomer, or the wizards.

Yep. No world is like Twinsun, in stable orbit between the two suns (so far).

"We all live in harmony" etc.

I'd say such a situation is quite dangerous, anyone who wishes can just cause some riot, and there will be no one to stop him.

in order to riot you need
a) Something to riot against
and
b) people to riot.

Without a govement, both are quite hard.

They live in peace and order, and anarchy is the opposite of that.

anarchy means "no rules" or "to rule oneself" so it can cover both.

My personal idle society is "Organised Anachy", which though sounding
oxy-moronic, actualy implies theres an organised system whereby everyone contributes to how everyone else is governed. Kinda like democracy, only without any hierachy.

Mine is a democracy with capitalism, it's in my opinion the least retarded of all the possible retarded systems humans can think of. It keeps itself going almost automatically, and it's the only sytem were discussion, and disagreement makes things go smoothly. A system were human differences are favoured. In all other systems everyone has to think alike, so there is no place for individualism.

Twinsun is a bit like a commune I think, but there is no leader or leaders, no rules or laws. But they have thieves, so who catches them if there is no police ? It could work I think, with an alien population that is not used to having a government, where everyone help eachother, and a thief will be cought eventually, but not sentenced, being cought and marked as a thief would be punishment enough, but there are more serious crimes, but that's a utopia, for earth at least, it will never work like that.

That's probably one of the ways Funfrock came to power so easily.

It says at the beginning of LBA1 (or somewhere) that Funfrock led a coup, which suggests that there was some form of governence prior to his.

I thought there was some kind of "leading group" for Twinsun... Of course, this world may be a perfect world. But no : beginning of LBA 2, the rabbibunny stole the umbrella in the Pharmacy... There is criminality, so laws exists to judge this.

Same thing for money. If money exists, then someone makes products to sell them. There is an economy somewhere, it is totally hidden...

And after all, this is a Dream World. Twinsun = Utopia. Utopia makes other peoples jealous. Twinsunians have to save their Utopia. Round.

He lied. A compulsive liar, he was. Did you actually believe him?

Let me quote Baghdad Bob on this issue;
"The rabibunny is all about lies! All he tell is lies, lies and more lies!"

Rabbibunnies are a certain kind of twinsunians, and as we can't look into a heart of a rabbibunny we can't say anything.
Interresting which thoughts we make about a game....

The long term consequences of capitalism is the "globe corp" future.

You can see it happening now.
Big companys forever buying smaller companys yields to only one possible long term future.
One company.

It isnt hyperbole, its a logical etrapolation of the current world. Nothing, nothing whatsoever, is encourageing companys to get smaller or more specific. The bigger the company, the more buying power it has to purchase the competition and thus make itself even bigger.

The only reason people arnt terrified of this yet is that there is nothing in history to warn us of it.

The mistake we are makeing is thinking capatilism is a stable. Its not.
Our society is at a unique point in human history.
Global companys have only been truely possible in the last 50 years.

This is one case were cant feel safe that something is not going to happen, purely because it hasnt happened yet.

I don't think I agree with that, big, really big companies with huge income exist from about a hundred years(westinghouse electric for instance), new companies with original ideas still emerge, and nothing from what I observed, shows us that a single global corporation could come into being. The "lawgiver" has thought of that, and we have anti-cartel laws, anti-monopoly laws, if a single company would be a monopolist the courts would give it huge penalties and split it to smaller companies. Companies have been fusing and splitting for years ( e.g daimler-chrysler, mercedes-benz ), some of them had fallen, some are on the verge of existence, and some triumph but none is a monopolist. You know, I'm not saying there is no possibility like this, I just think, based on what I observe, that right now it's very unlikely to happen. People have been conjuring those dark-fantasy stories, about a corportion global rule for more than 30 years, but through all those 30 years, in my opinion the situation has been stable, and those predictions are not becoming reality. It's like the thing with modern hippies "omg the corporations are destroying our lives!", but when you ask them "wich corporations?", they can't give you an answer.

"big" is different from global multi-facetted mega companys.

Companys a hundred years ago generaly stuck to one thing, now days big companys have their arms in hundreds...hundreds of thousands even.

Your looking at specific (old) case's, but not at the trend.

The only thing we have to stop the companys getting bigger and bigger is anti-monopoly laws?
Ekk. We are in trouble then.

30 years? 30 years is NOTHING.
This will take a good century, but theres no *trend* to stop it happening.
And yes, over those 30 years companys have been getting bigger, more widespreed and more influence. (see: Net Neutrality, and how crappy the internet will be if they get their way)

You only have to look at the video game industary;
The number of indepedent games developers is slim to nill.
Especialy in the UK, but its happeing everywhere.
Either your a part of EA, or your a part of Sony, Microsoft (and Ubisoft/Nintendo too, to lesser extents).

The big companys buy the smaller ones, and the smaller ones have to put themselfs on sale to survive. They dont have the muscle on their own.

Which coporations?
Well, as far as Media goes, its Sony and Microsoft at the moment.
Sony is finicialy weak, but if it succeeds in whats its trying to do and gets BluRay as standard, then its pretty much got Music, Movies and Games all tied up.
You think they will stop at buying MGM? Bullshit.
They will buy every bleeding studio they can, if they are getting bluray royties on every film sold that wont be hard.
Luckly, I think Sony is being run by idiots at the moment, so I dont see Sony as a threat. (They will arrogantly assume people will want their format, rather then makeing it truely attractive.)
But thats more of a management blip then something that counters the trend.

But rest assured, you can not look at the past 30 years and use it to judge the next hundred.

Companys have been fusing and splitting, true.
But more are fusing then splitting.
And, the ones that are fused, are more powerfull then the others that arnt.

well well.. Marx said that capitalism leads to monopolcapitalism 130 years ago. And just as in most other areas, he was wrong.

And what is the alternative to capitalism?

----

TWINSUN is obviously an anarchocapitalistic society. But on the other hand you could argue that property rights are not very well defined.
