Microsoft rips off LBA!

I was playing all the games that come with Windows Vista RC2.

One of the new games is called Purble Place. In the game, theres 3 houses, or different games. The house on the far left, is a memory game where you select two cards at a time to view them, and try to match all of them.

Then all of a sudden, while playing, I hear a sound that is the trademark of the LBA brand. Its the sound that represents LBA and probably the most heard and recognized sound in lba for any player.

Its even the sound of reason for name of MBN!!!!

There using the 'exact' same sound effect of......

the
MAGICBALL

record it, compare waveforms.

Sound effects are ripped off all the time, this one might just have actualy come from lba.

I checked it, and the style of the sound effects is similar, but I didn't hear something that was exactly the magicball. Maybe they just used the same method to produce the effects.

It's a sound used in a lot of things. It was in Starshot aswell and it's also used in some TV shows and series. Same for the duck sound from Simon the Sorcerer or the scream of a soldier dying in Command & Conquer. Those games don't own those sounds.

Thats the Willhelm scream- it predates Command and Conquer. Hell it predates computer games, it was first heard in various movies of the 1950's (speccificly, Distant Drums in 1951) and has been a stock sound effect ever since.

There's also an other scream in C&C featured in other media.

Also there's a door screech used in Deus Ex and many, many movies. I've even heard it in Grey's Anatomy when someone is adjusting some surgery lights.

That doesn't really sound like any scream from C&C if you ask me...

Many people have recorded their own versions fo the Wilhelm Scream- but it is in there. Usualy only comes up in C&C if someone gets blown up.

The amount of times I have heard the ride braking down sound from Theme Park World in cartoons and other programmes. Rarhhhh, but I guess Bullfrog ripped that off from elsewhere probably a sound stock archive.

Talk about similar sounds... When I've first set my eyes on the InternetExplorer browser upgrade, my first idea was that whoever designed the new looks must have definitely been an LBA fan. The new IE icon and the icon of a page loading have been warming my heart considerably ever since.
