Little Big Adventure brawl, which one do you think is best?

Ye I thought this might be an interesting topic to get some lively discussion, which is better, lba 1 or lba 2 in your opinion. Do you prefer the origonal the classic, the challenge of the harder lba1? or do you like the zaniness of lba2 new graphics charecters and plot line and easy going playstyle?

LBA 2, primarily because I played it first, and I preferred the camera and polish of the second game over LBA 1. Just my opinion (and obviously the storylines reflect this) but I find LBA 1 to be duller which LBA 2 just "pops," especially desert island, with colors and distinctive locations.

I prefer LBA1, more serious, more... In fact, I have no reasons I think, I just prefer it
Might come from the fact that I wasn't able to play it for a long time (until I discovered LBAWin).

LBA2, mainly because of:
- I played it first, I was still a child back then. I played LBA1 as a teen.
- I liked the many different environments (Twinsun, Moon, Zeelich above-gas and under-gas).
- More weapons compared to only 2 weapons in LBA1.
- Better graphics - I like the outside 3D
- Better voice acting (I really like David Gasman's Twinsen)
- Better music. Also, it reminds me of my childhood.
- More fleshed-out and unique characters. Really, in LBA1 everyone looked the same. Besides, nobody really had a personality. I love Baldino and Zoé in LBA2 (oh, and Rick and Johnny Rocket too!). There were very few named characters in LBA1, LBA2 has more of these.
- Funnier. LBA1 was very serious, you could feel the threat of living in a real police state. If I'd like to cheer myself up, I play LBA2. The Francos are hilarious - when I talk about LBA with my friends I always mention "This game is so crazy it has sausage-people in it!"

I agree, I think the LBA 2 voice actor blows away the LBA 1 actor (for the English versions). Just seems to fit the character better. I always found the LBA 1 actor to be too breathy and underwhelming.

The Voice acting for lba1 was mediocre and done pretty cheaply, i guess thats because it was low budget.

Nevertheless, where is the option "Both are equally fantastic!" ?.

it's nice to have them as polaris says every once in a while and that would be the can't decide option.

I am aware of the option "can't decide", however it's not that I can't decide, it's more like "You can't judge masterpieces, they're not meant for comparing, they're art, and each is perfect on their own, and if you were to compare you'd eventually realize they have just the exact amount of good points even if these good points are different... so in the end it's a tie."

No, it's not.

I'll try to be simple so you'll all understand:
Lba1 and Lba 2 is like the day and night, a girl and a boy, the Sun and the moon.

They complement each other perfectly, and hold equal value while not substituting each other.

However, just like one can PREFER the day instead of the night or vice-versa, I can say that I PREFER LBA2. YET, that does not mean, in any way, that is it BETTER than the LBA1, for it is it's perfect counterpart without which the other could not exist or would deem itself to be incomplete.

There, this matter is settled.

To further complement my answer:

I think of LBA 1 and 2 as heart and brain.

Lba 1 is the brain, where you have a denser story, many different characters are presented , and lots of action focused in fighting enemies, traps, etc. Lba 2 is the heart, more focused in emotions, a deeper feel into each characters personality, and a bigger attention to the magic of the world rather than fighting.

Lba 1 is incomplete to the whole as it lacks that deeper insight into it's own universe, and serves to present the places and people. Lba 2 is incomplete on itself, as it lacks that previous presentation of the characters to you, and to all key components of the story (Sendell, Funfrock, etc).

So, like the heart and brain, you can't have one without the other. So, no better. They don't brawl, they co-exist in harmony.

Poll title "What is your favourite LBA game"

your favourite = preference
Can't Decide = no preference

You're simply overcomplicating things and for some reason appear to simply not like the way "Can't Decide" is worded.

Sorry, I'll end here.

I didn't read the poll title. I'm basing myself on this:

And I dislike to call one game better than the other.

So, I'm just sharing my view of things, my view of both games when compared to eachother, hopefully generating the lively discussion that was asked for. Anyway, I've voted LBA 2, there you go.

Why would LBA 1 be better than its sequel ?

Hi there,

I don't post much, but I have just (re) finished LBA 1 & LBA 2, and I feel fresh to give my opinion there.
First, I'm French, so I played the french versions of both games (yeah, French... I'm one of those strange guys who don't understand what "Relentless" means ). I played LBA 1 when it came out, and played the second when it came out too.

I will tell you why I think LBA 1 is the best!

First, the plot. LBA1's plot is darker and more surprising (you go from a dictator-fighting plot to a wow-magical-powers plot !). LBA2's is, in my opinion, a melting pot of ideas that are not as charming (I think Twinsun is a world that is so rich that we didn't need to explore another planet with another story...). LBA1's background seems deeper. LBA 2 has you wander from place to place, but everything seems a bit superficial.
LBA 1 : the epic story of a guy in a dark world ruled by a evil man. Our guy slowly learns the prophecy, his magical powers and his destiny.
LBA 2 : our guy deals with aliens, deals AGAIN with another prophecy (which is far less interesting) and another dictator. Twinsen, here, is not growing and learning. He just does his job. Someone in the forum said that characters are deeper in LBA2. I think, and it's important, that Twinsen himself is less deep in the sequel. He just does his job.

There is the atmosphere, which is linked to the plot. LBA 2 is more childish than the first. Someone talk about "1984", and this is it. In LBA 1, you are always wondering what terrible trap is waiting for you. LBA 2 is just a walk in the park ! This "childish" aspect can also be found in the voice acting. In French, LBA 2 sounds more like a game for children than LBA 1. There are more comedy aspects in LBA2, and I think it's too much.

The graphics. I have always thought that the outdoor scenes in LBA 2 were not that great (even when it came out). When it came out, LBA 1 was a lot ahead of his time (voices, graphics, music). LBA 2 was kind of outdated. But, I still like both.

But, guys, there is one thing that LBA 2 lacks : THE MUSIC !! You know, I listen to a lot of music, and particularly classical music (baroque, classique, romantisme...). LBA1's songs are jewels. The way it's written, the rendering, the melody, the mood, everything is perfect. Those songs are epic! I have to say that LBA2's are good, but, like the atmosphere and the plot, they seem lighter, brighter, more childish. Also, LBA2's songs are here for a background. LBA1's stand on their own. And, what to say about LBA's theme itself ? LBA1's is an epic orchestral piece. LBA2's is a pop song... that was really hard for me, even the first time I played LBA2!

LBA 1, overall, stimulates the mind more. There is more immersion in it, even if LBA 2's graphics try to captivate the player.

LBA 1 will always be my favourite, it's so astounding to discover Hamalayi, Desert Island, the Temple of Bu (man!), the cells, Sendell, the Dinofly (in French, the Dinofly in LBA2 is terrible), to run for Zoë.
LBA 2 ruined the Temple of Bu, Desert Island, and the war with the Queen is less interesting than the guerilla in Hamalayi...

Well, that was it, 2 greats games after all, but LBA 1's higher !

no need to rant like this lol, your heart and brain argument is also invalid as it's the same as can't decide as loss of either would result in the same outcome.

Dude. If you think all I wrote here equals the same as saying "Uhh... dunno!!11 " then I'm really wasting my time here with you kids. Are you even reading what I'm writing? *sigh*

And technically, no, it's not invalid:

Can't decide = 1 OR 2
My view = 1 AND 2

Alas, you're wrong, and now I'll leave this thread.

PS: I'm not ranting, I'm giving my honest opinion on something I love. Can't I ?
Afterall, in your first post you said "Discuss", that's what I am doing.
