Some possible visual inspiration for LBA2 (many images)
I've been looking quite a lot at the engravings of Gustave Doré (9th Century illustrator, most popular illustrations of all time) as inspiration for the look of a few of the environments in the LBA Prequel, and I think there's a similarity between the Zeelichian Undergas in LBA2 and Doré's depictions of Hell in Danté's Inferno. Doré's illustrations, particularly for Danté, are very far reaching and influential - could they have been the inspiration for the Undergas environment?
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() With the possible exception of the sinister hooded figures in the second-to-last image, the figures are obviously completely different. But I think there are definite similarities in the rocky, barren landscape and smoke filled 'sky'. The ferryman crops up here too, but he's in most images of Hell. Any thoughts? Or am I looking for something that simply isn't there? |

I expect something like LBA contains influence from a lot of different areas.
I don't even see why you should exclude the hooded figures, remember the wannies?! I can see why you would think that, but I doubt anyone here knows the answer. |

Who knows?
Why we don't asking the old Adeline team next time?? ![]() The landscape looks similar indeed. And remember that Vachey was inspired by classical music, the rest of the team probably went on the same way. They are french people, very instructed one.

that resembles like a lot of places from LBA2, not only Zeelich ... from Citadel's mountains, to the Dome, Otringal's crash site, Undergas, Mosquibee Island, etc.

How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, some afternoon that's so deeply a part of your being that you can't even conceive of your life without it? Perhaps four or five times more, perhaps not even that. How many more times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps twenty. And yet it all seems limitless." --- Paul Bowles |

Hmm. I don't see the similarity... Except the hooded guys which, like kit said, the wannies.

Great, i think you are right somehow
![]() I also loved that the islands shapes on Twinsun are based on countrys. This one is far more subtle but great find, i think. Even if its just "inspired" by it. |

Undergas was more or less based on the Christian post Dante's Inferno concept of hell. The whole fairy man crossing a river of fire, I think, was from Dante. Greek Mythology also has an underworld fairy man, but Dante had the lake of fire so my bet is with Dante's Inferno.

I'll always be impressed by how rich the LBA universe is.
As time goes we keep finding more and more sources of inspiration they used, and they are all very different, yet the result is coherent. I'm sure this game wouldn't be so rich if they didn't work like they did: each person in the team giving ideas, participating in building the universe. |

![]() That looks A LOT like a scene from "What dreams may come", I guess now I know the source of the inspiration for that movie scene.

Woww! The picture with the monks is absolutely LBA style.
The Island of the Wannies exactly looks like that stuff, with all the monks and the father priest who asks you about the wannies keyfragment. So as the ferryman's boat. It is possible that these paintings are used as inspiration. ![]() |
