Haha yeah, I for myself have been pensioned for a while, didn't really get along with that whole having-a-job thing. Lots of medical procedures didn't help either. I'm having therapy

Hello ChaosFish! It seems you, Neko and I are the oldest members here. The year 2000!

And don't worry. It has been hard for me too, growing up. I can relate to what kobold said also. Many of my friends are getting endless promotions, have definite future plans and positive expectations of success, and are in good health. It's like an endless upwards spiral of ambition and achievement, where "problems" are more between two good options than anything else. Not judging, just a general observation.

I'm just in "survival mode", though, getting through each day. But I do have good friends who care, a foster son (he'll be moving on soon but has been nothing but a blessing) and a wife. My main work has been doing soundtracks, which has had ups and downs but is good as I don't think I'd hack a regular job and making music is wonderful.

Insomnia and then health things have come on thick and fast since 2018 however. I'm currently going through auditory hell with my hearing. That side of things began in February 2020 after I played at too loud a concert. Suddenly went even more haywire in May of this year - I don't know why, though I suspect it was randomly getting a bunch of ear infections. And then went crazier still just recently. 24/7 screaming catastrophic tinnitus, hyperacusis (over sensitivity to / pain with most sound), etc.

I still think it is better to live / keep on going. I have a faith in God too, which I know will seem utterly ludicrous to everyone in this day and age but has changed things. Never complain, people! Be thankful for the silence, hearing and senses you have. Food (if you have it.) Shelter. Etc.

Seems that way - even I qualify, and I very much remember being something of a baby of these forums.

I do think being a grownup is kind of a fake idea though. I definitely don't feel very grown up a lot of the time!

Yeah I’m still into music, though mainly listening rather than recording these days. I work from home these days so pretty much just spend all day listening to all sorts of stuff.

Sorry to hear about you developing hyperacusis - I used to know a guy who suffered with that and it seemed extremely unpleasant. Hope you’re keeping well regardless.

Since there seems to be a reunion going on, I thought I'd at least pop in and say hello. (I probably check the MBN for news once or twice a year - hence stumbling across this!)

Joined as a teenager back in the 2000s and haven't really posted since then. Now in my 30s. I guess that could count as grown up?
