That is annoying.

they could be dummy tracks put there by the record company. that's exactly thbe same thing eminem did. madonna did the same thing but the tracks just had her shouting "what the fuck do you think you're doing?" rather than being short clips.

what gets me is that with all their vast money, sony and universal and aol time warner could completely exterminate kazaa and the others. they could hopelessly congest it or completely flood it with dummy files. they could set up special computer centres with thousands of megabytes of bandwidth especially to do it. just goes to show they haven't got a fucking clue what they're doing...

Well, they're indeed doing less than they could, but IMO eliminating file-sharing wouldn't be so easy at all. For each 10 systems they would destroy, 30 new ones would come. I think the geniality and insight of many people that could code and act in favor of file-sharing can't be underestimated... take a look at OpenFT for an example, it's better thant FastTrack (the kazaa network) and was made by a small group of guys.

The key is format controll, formats that have the media streams encripted and you can only listen/view the data if you supply the correct key (which only works for a certain time).

That way, you "rent" the right to listen/view a peace of media for a set fee per track. The physicals and/or the data becomes almost worthless.

At least, thats in thoery, in reality making such a system hack prove would be near impossible.
And there only needs to be one person to crack the system in order to re-code the stream into an earlier format.
