Multiple meteorites hitting a Russian city yesterday:

Meanwhile, a large one is passing between our Geo-stationary satellites and earth.

A lot is still to be determained from what I gather - this was a utterly unexpected event.
Theres a chance that, like Tunguska, it was a explosion in the atmosphere and then the debree rained down and thats whats causing the damage.

Fortunately russian driving standards are so bad theres lots of footage from car-mounted cameras people have.

It's not the debris that's causing the damage but the pressure wave that resulted from an explosion due to the meteorite's low angle and high velocity.

The pressure in turn caused windows and doors to shatter, roofs to callapse etc. causing injuries in people.

I love that a Russian politician already blamed a failed U.S. weapons test for the meteorite.

I believe that's what Jas meant. The subsequent force generated by the impact that blew out windows, etc.

I'm not sure it's the impact (there was none, except for some small leftovers) or the explosion (more of a disintegration) that caused the shockwave to do all that damage. I think the mere movement of the meteorite in the air at hyper-ultra-supersonic speed (35000km/h) is enough for that.

No, asteroids can and do explode when they enter the atmosphere, they "pancake" from the sudden rise in density they encounter, and when they finally fall apart they transfer all the energy they accumulated into the atmosphere, as a sudden burst of heat and light and move the air around the explosion towards the ground at supersonic speeds.

Look at films of bombs exploding, before any of the fire from the blast travels a pressure wave that can kill people who where not in the area covered by the fireball and debris.

Mostly yes, but given that circular hole (and now convenient fishing spot) in that ice sheet, its clear at least some stuff was striking the ground.

Also, theres a ice rink with a hole in the side which I dought was pressure related.

There should certainly be enough material - both digital recordings and physical bits landed - too work out a lot about this event.

There were reports in Florida that there were "fireballs" in the sky yesterday, and considering the proximity to Cuba, may lend some credence.

It will happen, absolute certain. The question is now, 100 years or even 10,000.
We know earths past enough to know we get hit in big ways every so often.

Our species needs to get its act together.

We are very lucky no one died here - yet provided something of a warning/eye-opener. So in some ways its a good thing.
