I supported Farscape (still my favorate show of all time).

The smallville skyscraper is probably due to the smallville team starting the rewards for the campagn, and in most news articals they are getting the publicity from it. (eg, "Support the Writters and get the gift of Lex!")
Fair enough really, it was a good idea, and the smallville fanbase got behind it quickly.
I daresay the Lost is attracting a lot of attention for its "Ask questions for the writters!" reward.
I hope whoever wins that thinks very carefully about the questions, and dosnt just ask ones the writters cant yet answer. (and thus have to dodge).

Rather than residuals, McFarland will retain 50 percent ownership of the copyright. That's a good thing for Family Guy (which I never watch so I don't care but still). Instead of staying out of job because of the strike they're gonna work for Google and recieve their fair share of the profits.

Ha, actually this looks like a front and a symptom of something much bigger coming, wich is the fall of big recording companies as they will become obsolete, thanks to the internet, and the fall of centrally generated culture, in favour of user generated culture, and a liberalisation of copy-right laws. I hope that either this strike widens to all kinds of artists, or that it will generate the ideology, for such future strikes, ultimately leading to the fall of this huge money driven monstrosity, in favour of open source music, movies, architecture, books, technology.

One-off deals do nothing to bring the WGA closer to a permanent solution for working writers. These interim agreements are sideshows and mean only that some writers will be employed at the same time other writers will be picketing. In the end, until the people in charge at WGA decide to focus on the main event rather than these sideshows, the economic harm being caused by the strike will continue.

The only point of note on that whole Amptp website was the reality-tv stuff.
I do want to know what the WGA is even dealing with that issue, when its got nothing much to do with writters. DVD and Media distribution this is 99% about.

So they do have a point there.

But just about everything else is pathetic, especialy how they not so cleverly twist stats. (So a writter earns more then a pilot eh? And how long is the average writter in employment compared to the average pilot? Come back and compare data on jobs that have sub-year security and earn other people millions).

Its especialy funny as every time they mention how ""rich"" writters are, they seem to skip over how much that is as a percentage of what the studios make from their work.

We can but hope.

Allthough I dont think it will all be open-source. I do think it will be a non-centralised democratic distribution of media, potentialy with many companys/individuals also giving fans some of the raw materials used to make the entertainment. (Sanctuary did this a bit...giving the raw instrument recordings used to make the soundtrack, as well as some blue-screen stuff. )

It is "privatized" but the Government still holds the majority of shares. "Die Bahn" is just an advertisment slogan, it's still Deutsche Bahn.
