Zed's imagination wasn't that great these days lying on the beach.
Except for that, he carries a bag (or something like it) with him wich he uses to collect mushrooms.
There are no mushrooms on the beach.
So? What was he seeking for? Aha! Seastars.
He uses the seastars to grow mushrooms.
The ground in front of the Wizard's hangout is suitable enough.
The mushrooms can be used to make cookies out of them.
But that will be a waste.

I think you are confusing Zed with someone else. Zed created all of LBA2 just by eating his mushrooms on the beach that day. The aliens, their dogs everything. Even all the bugs.

Well we can say much about Zed. However I find the following rather typical: if one makes a drawing of Twinsen its all about the drawing but if one makes a drawing of Zed it is about Zed for the next few weeks.
