Hypothetic LBA3 music thread.
So um, I think that's the only thing we haven't discussed the living daylights out of, the possible style of music in LBA3. Everyone just assumes it will be exactly like the music in the first two ones I guess.
I think it will most likely be somehow refurbished. Imho it should have tracks played on a hang drum: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvUxXVQ8tEY Like that ^ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JisSS6rZU60 Or that ^ And more of an orchestral score then a "one man band". Or even a Hapi drum. And perhaps some other "weird" instruments, like a digeridoo.

I think Phil Vachey did make an effort to have some kind of orchestral score, The Empire from LBA2 would have been very cool to hear performed with a live orchestra, but I expect it was something to do with MIDI restrictions that you're implying it wasn't epic enough. I think if the same kind of thing was done as before but with more modern technology it would be great. There's a big jump in quality even between LBA1 and LBA2 and that's only 3 years(?) or so.

Perhaps four or five times more, perhaps not even that. How many more times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps twenty. And yet it all seems limitless." --- Paul Bowles |

I think LBA3, should it be released, should have LBA2 style music played by an orchestra. The music from LBA2 felt amazingly atmospheric at the time. I even liked the midi file that played during the installation! (It REALLY needs to be added to the download page! I dont have my CD with me and for some reason havent copied it onto my hard drive.) EDIT: Oops, no it's there... I found it through Google. http://www.magicball.net/downloads/m...heme_song_midi |

While some tracks from the previous games would have worked with an orchestra, there are other pieces I don't think would work with an orchestra. Most noticeably, the Little Big Adventure main theme. I think there are various pieces throughout the games that also benefit from having a 'smaller' sound than you'd get from an orchestra. Mind you, most of this is based on the soundtrack for any future LBA games being of the same style as the soundtrack of the first two (which, admittedly is what I'd want)
I think some pieces should be orchestral, but not all.

That sounds kinda ear hurting sometimes...
And it seems like a really Japanese thing to do, even though it looks like it's Hawaii or whatnot. Anyway, it would fit a Mario type game more then LBA I guess... I think that LBA2 tune that plays during install would be perfect for a hang drum.

I didn't mean the melody and volume as much as the medium...
Lapsteels and hammer dulicmers might be in place very much. Aswell as some good old flutes and bells. Gonna look for some good melodies now... |

Do we have any music Phil Vachey has done recently? As surely the games music style will simply reflect his own style. Which surely changes with time.

In that case, "apathetic" would be more fit. I do find this thread interesting, though.
