Play Station Twinsen models on the PC

I'd like to refresh my LBA1 version a bit, is it possible to extract the relevant model files from the PS version of LBA and put it in the PC version?

I've been told that the PS version twinsen has the head more similar to the LBA2 one.

Hm. That totally depends on how the files are stored in the PS version. I don't think anybody has ever taken its file system apart. If it uses the same kind of HQR files and game engine, it would be possible.
I'm not sure, is the PS file system readable by a PC?

I have some models ripped from Kingdom Hearts, so I think it is possible. Not sure about the HQR files - that's why I was asking.

I have the ISO somewhere, but I don't know at all how anything can be extracted from that.

ISO is just container for files, like zip, rar archives (only that it doesn't use any compression). WinRAR and 7-zip can open it, so you can view and extract the files inside.

ISO is a file system, BIN is binary data. Meaning BIN can contain any data, while ISO must contain a certain structure of files. So you can't open BIN with WinRAR but you can mount it with Daemon Tools.

There's loads of PS emulating programs, like ePSXe (for Linux and Windows).

As I said, we'll just need somebody with either the original CD or the ISO to take a look at the file system of the PS version.

This is the stuff on the CD.

Scenes.blk is the only file with any significant size 41.6 mb, the rest are all in kilobytes. Extracted the game.hqr file and all I got was these lousy .lun files - all with size not exceeding around 400 kilobytes.

LBA Package Editors have no way of automatically detecting a file's extension. We basically invented a bunch of file extensions for grids, models etc on our own, depending on the kind of HQR those files were originally in. For the unknown GAME.HQR, we could only start guessing. Nobody has documented the file, that's why you get "lun" - "lba unknown".

Considering there's only 16 entries in GAME.HQR, I think most of the models are hidden in scene.blk. We've never worked with BLK files before. You'll need to get our file system exports working on that one. Was LBA Package Editor able to open that file?

Hm, that's quite a bit more than your scene.blk. Maybe it uses compression of some sort.

Opening the scenes.blk file in LBA Package editor results in a "File is incorrect or broken! During opening the following problem occured #9: Unkown package file extension."

Here are all the file sizes, game.hqr contained 1.4 mb of data.


The extract folder was made by me and not original.

From all the files the only one the package editor can make heads from tails (displays what each entry is) is text.hqr

That's because TEXT.HQR is the only one with LBA File Information.
Holomap.hqr is also from the original LBA1, but nobody documented it.
The rest (bumper.hqr, credits.hqr, game.hqr) would need inspection.

You think it would take long to locate model + animation information in one of those files? I ran the game and the character model does look substantially better (if only the PS version wasn't crappy res anyway...)

A bigger reaction to what exactly? That there's a playstation version of LBA? Or that you've got the files that were on the playstation disk on your PC?
